Hi Everyone,
Im up to page 24 now lol
But just wanted to say i have had a break through lol
Been meal planning (and taking loads of tips from you guys over the last couple of days) and this weeks food shop - which normally would have been £40 was £25!!!!!!!!!
I even overheard DH telling BIL how much he likes my HM bread and that its only 40p per loaf (this is what ive worked out from what ive made so far - is it possible to make this cheaper?) you have to bear in mind that when i said i wanted a BM he told me it was a waste of time and money until my nanna gave me her 6 month old shiney machine for free and until he tasted the first loaf
I know you lovely peeps will be able to send me to the right thread - but is there a list of BM recipies anywhere? all i have attempted so far is normal white bread and would love to try a cake or something but dont know where to start.
Thanks Puzzled x0 -

Hi all,
I was wondering about this recipe:

How many people will this serve? And how much should it cost roughly per person?
Thanks! :money:0 -
Hi there
Not sure on the cost as it will depend on what veggies you use ... but its a "weezle wonder" so the answer will be "not a lot":rotfl: -it says serves 4 generous portions..-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I have a question about homemade bread: how does everyone cut their bread uniformly? I can't cut my bread, I'm so clumsy
Is their some kind of machine or device that will help me get more than 6 doorsteps out of my HM loaves?
Thanks!0 -
You can get a slicing machine (electronic) for around £30-£35 (or cheaper if you're lucky at a car boot sale) like this one
Or you can get a 'manual guide' like this one
I find I get a more uniform (and straighter) slice using an electric knife rather than a normal bread knife -- but I also get a lot more crumbs so I don't generally use the electric knife.
I'm currently debating putting an electric slicer onto my Christmas list, as that would also cut thin slices from a joint if I cook and cool for sandwiches -- I find ham and beef joints almost impossible to carve by hand !!!Cheryl0 -
Spotted Somerfields have an offer on, with a 2.4kg chicken retailing for £4 instead of £8, which makes them cheaper per kg than the Mr T value ones.
Went out for one yesterday morning, which I'd decided could go in the slow cooker while I took hubby to hospital -- especially as we'd no idea what time we'd get home -- but when I went to pick one up I noticed that although they all said 2.4kg they had various cooking times.... from about 2hr 40 right up to 3hr 25. Now the only way they could need different times is if they're different weights, so I picked up the one with the longest cooking time which was right at the back of the display
Got it home, unpacked it, and popped it on my kitchen scales..... 3.154kg, so quite a good bargain.
Sometimes I find the same thing true of prepackaged bananas and apples. Well worth checking the weight of the prepackaged and *then* comparing them to the price of the loose. I got some prepackaged organic bananas the day before yesterday, for the same price per KG as the loose standard onesSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

slicng bread takes a while to get...I used to worry about slicing unevenly but it gets better with time and practice! Also the nice thing about hm bread is each slice is unique!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0
