Can't remember who posted about the little blue fat stripping diet pills but

*raising her hand* Yep that would be who posted that and quite frankly I dont see the point in them either! I think they have horrible side effects or at least embarrassing ones and no I cant believe that the GP expects me to lose a min of a stone in a month. I suppose the only good thing is that taking the little pills has made me more aware of what I eat, watching for every little gram of fat content now and after only being on them this week I find myself frustrated and angry as I have spent the past 2 hours just trying to figure out what i want for lunch and have finally given up! This is worse than a crash diet and cant be good either and it is not like I dont eat healthy to begin with just for whatever reason can not lose weight but will plod along!! never know may give it a nudge in the right direction.

Learning some meditation techniques from a library book really helped me lose weight (and deal with stress in general!) Maybe you could look into that?

Plum Pie, now that is interesting, think I will have to look into that as I am generally stressed to the hilt, especially now!

    Thank you:j

I know it sounds ridiculous but I always do 10 slow breaths a couple of times a day. (Usually in the middle of the day and after getting home from work (before dinner!) ). It only takes 30 seconds, but feels like a lovely long pause when my mind is spinning. Also I find it helps me eat more slowly! ;)

  • Hi guys and Weezle if you are looking in.

Just posting to say ISOM has had her operation and is recovering well! To remain on topic i have posted a thread on DFW to wish her well. I know lots of you will want to add their good wishes as she is a great contributer on here. Hope you don't mind Weezl. BOB X

Have been doing some cooking (paid - yippee) for a friend who works very long hours and tried this one for her today. It's really nice and could go with lots of other things, veggie or otherwise.

Went to the local health food shop to buy some stuff for her meals (she has Candida in her stomach and is having to follow an even more restrictive diet than she normally does) and got into a conversation with the shop assistant there. I may have picked up some more work, she was interested as she is a vegan and can't buy (doesn't cook) anything very much, and maybe supplying the shop too. They will be opening a bigger shop towards the end of Sept, I'll def follow this lead up. I love to cook, so the idea of cooking and being paid for it is my idea of heaven really.

    Anyway, recipe.

    Spiced Gingered Lentils
    250g green lentils
    1 tblsp olive oil
    2 shredded leeks
    2 tsp garam masala
2.5cm piece of fresh root ginger, peeled and grated, or chopped very fine
    1 pt of stock
    salt and black pepper

saute the leeks for a few minutes, add the spices and fry to infuse the flavour into the leeks. Add the lentils and stock and simmer gently with the lid on until the lentils are just cooked, you may need to add more stock. Season to taste.

I will supply this to be eaten with some gluten free gnochhi and a thick and spicy tomato sauce.

Have been trying to get some tofu for her and finding it quite difficult. Have found a recipe for making it and have some dripping at the moment, I'll let you know if it works.

Just a curious question, so many people post how much they do and bake, I'm wondering what our regulars do for a job and how many hours?
Officially I'm a computer programmer who works 35 hours a week (7 hours a day, plus 1.5-2hrs/day travelling, plus daily lunch break of 30 mins minimum).

But in practice I've been on "gardening leave" since 19th May, so I only have to go into the office once a week (to complete my timesheet!)

But, based on a phone call from HR on Monday, I'm not likely to have to even do that after 12th September .

I guess I wondered really how people managed, so thanks for all those replies. The worst days I was working, I was in at 6.30am and out at 10pm. Needless to say, it was "on toast" or doughnuts from the supermarket! (People say the overtime would have been worth it... but there is no overtime!!).

I don't honestly think anyone could do my job with kids (fortunately I'm not having any), as I think being OS with kids around would be more than a full time job in itself.

I look forward to being mortgage free and persuing other things.

  • Hey all,
Did a spot of charity shopping and found something very exciting, a 1960s copy of a Mrs Beeton cookery book for £3, it's brilliant. Covers a lot of stuff and is very detailed but also very sexist and contains such gems as "conger eel pie"... Mmm...

Have made marrow chutney today, my goodness there is a lot of it, hope I can work out what to do with it. I also made a lovely apple and cinammon sponge for pudding tonight. Feeling very domesticated :)

Oooops! Probably should have posted a warning that it makes up unexpectedly huge volumes

But it keeps for years (if it doesn't get eaten by a family who love it), so it's never been a worry for me/us :rolleyes2

    Hope you enjoy it :)
