Yes ISOM it was VERY early. Oh well, have the yellow plums in the pan cooking away nicely for jam, jars in the oven. Now just thinking if i want to make some blackberry and apple jam next or onion or apple chutney next! Have a driving lesson at 1130 so have to think about timing.

chilly and windy here today, have decided that summer for whatever reason skipped the east midlands this year!!

    Good morning everyone :)

Summer skipped the NW of England as well :(

I was up rather late last night, and was heading to head as Mr & Mrs Munchki got up.... I will almost certainly go back to bed for a guilt free snooze later today ;)

I love the smell of the kitchen when making jam, smells all sweet and fruity and so like I remember grannies house smelling when I was a little girl. oh the memories!

I had a little almost guilt free nap on the couch for a nearly a couple of hours lol DH said I would be daft not to lol

Hi again everyone, sorry haven't been around but I've been poorly and struggling to keep up with the threads! It seems you've been ill too ISOM, so glad you're feeling a little better.
I'm clinging on for dear life to keep my GC spends down for the rest of the month - nowhere near Weezl's standard but still an improvement :D
My tomatoes aren't ripening either  How much foliage should I cut off to help them? And does anyone have any ideas for some elderberries I have growing in my garden please?
Have a great day all, will try to keep up but can't promise!

I have sneaked in here for another peek at the marvels you all do with foraging, jam making etc. Love reading this thread! You are all very inspirational.
To answer the Q about working hours etc, I teach full-time at a college and am out roughly 7.30 til 5.30 or a bit later. I do batch cooking and freezing and work from a menu plan term time otherwise the money just fritters away on going out or else going to the supermarket every night. I just grab time when I can. I find chopping veg and cooking soups and stew type things really relaxing.
Off to read back a bit further - I've already copied and pasted quite a few recipes and am getting very organised here biggrin.gif

Just bottled up 7 jars of yellow plum jam. smells wonderful!! Just had a ring from Driving instructor, aka DH best mate who just qualified lol and going out in 30 mins sooooooooo will have more time this afternoon to make apple and blackberry and perhaps chutney as well. Even got some very nice lemons so may try making lemon curd as well. At the moment I think I have about 18 jars of jam done, so not too bad!

  • I like slicing bread..i get a certain satisfaction out of it..Well i am going to make Mrs.M's canneloni, yum for wednesday ( if it lasts that long) And have a roast leg of lamb for today.
Plans will now include potato scones, and also twinks hobnobs and ordinary scones.
we are still coming in at around the £2.50 mark for meals, and i am surpising myself at how well the budget for food is looking.
Home grown courgettes looking good, some plants better than others, spuds a bit of a washout..but am eyeing up some different varieties!Beans are coming on a treat as well.

would love a sausage maker as well..will keep eyes peeled for them.
Hope everyone else has a good day, and hope Weezl back soon.
    Thanks for all the recipes.x

my dad taught me that you never push down on the loaf as you cut it, just keep the sawing motion with no pressure downwards as it's the pressure that makes for a wonky slice. i still slice thick but straight slices.lol

*raising her hand* Yep that would be who posted that and quite frankly I dont see the point in them either! I think they have horrible side effects or at least embarrassing ones and no I cant believe that the GP expects me to lose a min of a stone in a month. I suppose the only good thing is that taking the little pills has made me more aware of what I eat, watching for every little gram of fat content now and after only being on them this week I find myself frustrated and angry as I have spent the past 2 hours just trying to figure out what i want for lunch and have finally given up! This is worse than a crash diet and cant be good either and it is not like I dont eat healthy to begin with just for whatever reason can not lose weight but will plod along!! never know may give it a nudge in the right direction.

I know someone who took those pills - although she had A levels and a good job she didn't know that cheese was mostly fat! Ate cheese - went out - disaster!
