    I've been cooking for a friend today and yesterday. She works 60 or 70 hours a week and has very picky requirements re her diet and is paying me £5 :eek: a meal. Found this recipe for her that I think you guys will like too and nice and cheap. Also found some other stuff that I will post later.

    This is from the BBC Good Food site
    Indian Spinach Dumplings with Yogort Sauce
    500g frozen spinach, defrosted and squeezed out. I used frozen as it was the first time I had done this recipe, but I don't see why you can't use the tinned stuff.
    170g gram flour (chick pea flour)
    1 finely chopped red onion - could use ordinary, don't think you would taste the difference
    3 crushed garlic cloves
    1 tsp ground cumin
    1 tsp ground coriander

    yogort sauce
    oil
    2 tsp black or brown mustard seeds
    a handful of curry leaves or corainder leaves
    2 crushed garlic cloves
    1 tsp turmeric
    1-2 finely chopped green chillies
    1 x 250g pot Greek Yogort

    Mix all the dumpling ingredients together to make a softish paste. You need to be able to mould it, so add more flour or water if you need to. Roll the mixture into walnut sized balls and shallow fry until browned - about 6-8 minutes.

    Sizzle the spices for the sauce and stir in the yogort.

    I didn't do the yogort, as I was combining them with 2 other dishes that had sauce, but I reduced a little leftover tomato soup right down and sizzled some spices and topped them with that. They are really scummy

    Guess who got stuck into playing solitaire on the computer while watching TV, and forgot the bread was in the oven :eek:

    I split between three tins -- two are fine, but the third is a little bit 'dark' on the top.

    My son must have heard me howl 'bread' as I shot down the stairs, as he appeared in the kitchen as I pulled it out and asked for some there and then. His only complaint was it was too hot to actually spread the marge onto it :rolleyes2

    So we've both had hot bread with spread and honey as a mid-afternoon snack :) nom-nom

    He also peeked into the pan on the hob, and asked what it was. Declared it couldn't possibly be a bolognese sauce for lasagne as it has loads of 'chopped up baked beans' in it (he's never seen lentils before!). Told him it wasn't baked beans, but as mince is getting nastily expensive I've added some pulses to pad things out and bring the cost down. He went away muttering something under his breath, but he hasn't said he's not going to eat it -- which is the normal response with new things he doesn't like the look of.

    Took my stepsons about 6 months to ask what the "orange dots" were in the shep pie and lasagna ;) We explained that they are lentils and are healthy and low fat, don't taste of anything really and are good for you and showed them the pack and they were fine :D

    at (just turned) 17 mine has very firms ideas on what is 'normal' food and what isn't :rolleyes2

    he missed spotting the red pepper I diced and added though -- think it's "lost" in the sea of tinned chopped tomatoes ;)

    You're awfully good-natured. If anyone doesn't like what I cook, then they are welcome to do the cooking themselves in the future! :)

    I've tried that one before -- but he and hubby would happily get stuck into cooking curries, and the smell of them turns my stomach!! I can't even walk past an Indian take-away without heaving !!!!!!!!!

    10 and 13 must be a bit easier to convince then :D Although the younger one is convinced that meatballs only come out of a tin and can't understand why I don't buy them :rolleyes:

    I had a recipe some years ago for chicken liver pat! and there was quite a large proportion of crushed caraway seeds in it...think that it was 8 ozs liver, 8 ozs butter, 2or 3 tsps of caraway: fry liver in butter add caraways and blend until smooth...think that that was all...lot of butter but to a butter lover like me made it very creamy....wouldn't be cheap either with butter prices as they are to-day. Thought that some caraway added to any of the pat!s might give a slightly different taste.
