    Hi carrie

Thanks for checking for me :D If they are more expensive than you can get them...I will get hubby to take me to the chinese supermarket and price up there.. Wasn't about to pay £8-£13 for postage either  .... i just have to keep an eye out in the chinese supermarket as they are devil with the dates being close or out of date
I will find a way round it... I started using a lot of pearl barley , lentils etc when making hubbies soups for work last year..so i will get a re-stock of those in before the cold weather gets here and everyone wants them ;)

Things like suet will be got too.. i like the light veggie one but i might have to give the proper fresh stuff a go whilst im out here..its so easy to get hold of.. I don't think they waste anything here... its all packed, priced n stuck on the supermarket shelf :T
Soup bones are the best thing i think.... they were working out about €1 -80p for 2 kilo... but you would get about 1kilo of meat off -plus all the lovely stock -great for hubbies soups n casseroles :D

right i will get off again..and have a rumage through the web sites for ideas:D

Can't get chicken livers at either Mr T round us either -- and one of them is a large store!! But if I'm at Mr A (not on a bus route :( ) I can get them there

Been out for my third shop today -- morning was milk, bread rolls, and Whoopsies! only, afternoon was to check out the spuds and came back empty handed. After tea I took a bus to the larger Mr T (had use of a ticket), and did my 'large' shop for the week -- always have to add milk to these, and often bread as well.

Even allowing for using a fair amount that was already in the house, 2 years back this would have come in at £70 without me batting an eyelid. 12 months ago it would have been £40-£50. Today it came in at a touch over £21, and that included a fiver on things that we could probably have waited until next week for -- and dried milk which isn't a normal purchase for me. It also included a kilo of organic fine green beans (in clearance at 31p for 250g instead of £1.22 a pack!) which I wouldn't normally have bought, as it's only the last couple of weeks I've been buying fresh veg for freezing.

Used some of my self-frozen onions, mushrooms, runner beans and brocolli tonight -- and they were all great. So this is something I will certainly continue to do when I find good quality Whoopies at really keen prices :) Many thanks to all who mentioned they do this (which inspired me to try) and for your patience in getting me confident enough to prep the veg

I've bought the chicken livers from Mr A - in the frozen section but they've got a wider selection of different livers (and tripe) in the fresh meat cabinets so I'll be trying a different liver next time ;) Just making the pate now....DD isn't convinced but I am :rotfl::rotfl:

Just made some hummous from chick peas which have been hanging round for a long time, used a little tahini, some peanut butter, lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper...came out well and I didn't have to buy anything so considering it 'free'. Would usually add some coriander but forgot to plant any this year and refuse to pay shop prices for herbs...could have added some seeds but never thought of that until now.

I'm not sure about the pate :o Its too livery for me  Ended up adding some brown sauce to it and it tastes better. Maybe I've had too much junk/processed stuff lately and its effecting my taste buds  Its in the fridge chilling so I'll see tomorrow. :o

hadn't thought of adding brown sauce ;)

I just did the basic recipe without any of the 'optional extras', and I find it a bit too buttery (not a butter eater), but also bland -- the liver taste doesn't bother me 'cos I know without that it would just be butter :rolleyes2 Think I'll try stirring a small amount of sauce into some of the tub of pate we have in use atm and see if I find it more edible -- thanks for that tip :)

  • liz 545 I just used normal wholemeal, but i dont think it matters, I think eating them while still warm is the key, they wont be as nice cold.

Must admit I've not read it thru completely, or checked prices but Holland & Barret seem to do overseas orders where Julian Graves do not...unless perhaps they will for BFPO but you'd know more about that than me:p

to give you an idea of our High Street prices.

Apologies if I'm being obvious, but with France having mahoosiff MRT & MrS, would it be an idea to e-mail them for suggestions?
