Ceridwen - I realise you now have an abundance of curry recipes (!) but I make a really creamy, easy and cheap korma if you'd like that one too (don't wanna bombard you with another one!)

It's great to find likeminded people (and the more adventurously extreme!) on here so really hope you don't mind me piping up. Boodle.xxx.

I am still ghosting this thread - and reading avidly! While I can't hope to get to 50p a day, I too am trying to cost things to save the pennies, and find myself trying to extol the virtues of frugality to my friends! I've started a blog, too, so that I can keep track of my progress.

Hope t'blog goes well then. Just teensy thought - maybe you could set it up as your home page yur on M.S.E. - and we could all trundle in for a leetle looksee - that 'tis - if us be welcome in your "virtual home" m'dear?;) :D

Another silly question from me about freezing veg -- can't you just tell this is still a novelty to me ;)

I'm chopped, tray frozen, and bagged onions (even with double bagging I know they're in there :rotfl: ) and mushrooms.
I've topped, tailed, chopped and par-boiled runner beans before tray freezing and bagging (got another 275g @ 49p/kg tonight :) ).
But now I've also got some brocolli -- 438g pre-packed for 30p from Co-Op, with very little stalk and nothing wrong with it (no funny colours on the top like it has to be before Somerfields shove it into Whoopsie state!). I assume I cut it into florets like I normally would for cooking, par-boil, tray freeze and bag -- like I do with the runner beans

thats what i did! mine was brocolli from the garden, and i just blanched it (more to remove all the added protein! caterpillars!) and then froze it in a plastic box, then bagged it when frozen. haven't tried eating it yet though!!

Thanks :) The latest batch of sliced mushrooms should just about be ready for bagging, so will get on with getting the brocolli ready to shove onto the tray....

The way I've been going at freezing Whoopsie'd veg (or veg that needs using before it "goes" in the heat) I'm not actually making any space in my freezer, despite most of our evening meals coming out of there this last week :rotfl:

I managed it! The link to my blog should be on my homepage now. :) Thanks, Ceridwen. :)

I must get some more OS stuff done tonight. I'm going to make my sister in law's birthday cake at her house tomorrow, so that'll save me some on the gas bill! :D Mind you, the sugar and spice rings are best eaten when just cooling ever so slightly from the oven. :)

    i made jam!:j

i found a really easy recipe from the 'grow your own' magazine site , and made kiwi fruit jam. it is really yummy! i will eat it on toast, dh says it would make a good substitute for mango chutney !!! it would also be good with cold meats i would think!

( i was going to post the link, but i can't make it work? was also going to add photo, but can't get that to work either!)

also using an easy jam from the MSE recipe collection, made some blackberry jam.

very pleased with myself, as haven't made jam before! :j
