weezl - is that really meat from a pigs head ????? It looks so tasty,.........now if OH served that up and didn't tell me where it was from I'd happily eat that..................:j
Daren't mention our food bill for this week:eek: But we did need a few 'extras'
Tonights dinner was way above your price range...........fish and chips - we have a chappie deliver fresh fish on Friday morning and OH gets enough for the two of us (the boys hate fish!) He pays around £4 and batters it, serves with home made chips...............yummy..........but not that cheap ! (still, cheaper than going to the chippy)Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

can you tell us what you did so we can see if we can spot the mistake?!
I use longlife uht... it is cheaper and i don't need to heat it (removes the faff imo!)0 -
Re: stuffed peppers - I never make them standing up - I always half them and lay them on their sides - always checking before I cut them to see which is the best two sides for it to lie on - if you see what I mean...0

yategirl I'll try & see but will warm it up a bit first as its in the fridge at the mo...yog #2! Results to follow! Do you live in yate brizzle BTW? Have friends there & lived in Clifton & Horfield for years! Ps for those who are trying yog & have runny yog dont chuck it - try this;
soda bread, in place of buttermilk
1lb flour, half wholewheat, half white
1 tsp salt
1 tsp bicarb of soda (you're bound to have this in the house!)
1/2 pint failed yoghurt
1oz butter or 2 tbsp oil
Mix dry ingredients, rub in butter if using, add wet ingredients and knead lightly, as you would to make a scone, just enough to bring them together. Form into a loaf shape, a few cracks on the surface are fine. Dust the surface with flour and make a big X shape in the top with a sharp knife. Bake at Gas 6 ***200c/400F for about 35 minutes, till it is browned and sounds hollow when you tap the base.
You can add caraway seeds or raisins for variety.
recipe found on the yog thread on here!
Just checked the GM & found useful conversion site here which may be of use! Lots of handy measurements for us O/Sers!

yup that is right! tis a small world!
let the uht milk come up to room temp.. add 1-2 tblsp of starter yog, stir or shake gently. Either heat your flask with boiling water while you wait or fill the easiyo flask to the line with boiling water. With the flask, tip the water out, pour your milk in, screw the top on and leave; with the easiyo, add the container, screw the top on and leave. Allow about 8 hrs or till tomorrow morning. The very top will be slightly watery but there should be yog below that. Remember skimmed - drinking yog; whole = thick yog and semi = in between!
good luck!0 -
Tis a very small world, Mr Weezl went round to collect some demi johns from a lovely freecycler, and it turns out to have been our very own seakay!:T
Erm, spent slightly more than I meant to, but all on things which fit the challenge well!:o
Yep, ISOM, the bacon is for the pork pies I'm making with left over piggy head. Sorry your yoghurt didn't work out.
Mary43, it certainly was the same meat. I reckon you get 8 portions that size off the head I had!:D

Hi all, had a mixed day budget wise, i spent out on a free range chicken..but it was goooodddd...mmm. so am £6.50 out of pocket but at least three meals out of it, providing certain folk stop picking at it..so far, tea tonight, sandwiches tomorrow and a soup. It all helps bring the cost of the chicken down to about £2 a meal..eek, but i justify it by the fact that we only buy this every now and then.
If i factor that in after yesterdays baking spree, then it come to about £3.20 today which is a £1 over budget..so will be on the lookout for ultra cheap meals for next week.
Am just going to tootle up to Asda to see if i can get some more bargains...end of the day and all that! OO the thrill of friday nights......Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0
