wendy - sorry about what has happened - it's an awful thing to do.
On my first full re-entry to frugal land - I was given 2 courgettes by a manager at work! I could have taken a couple more but I would have felt a bit greedy.
I have cheese and cream to use up today so I'll do a courgette and cheese bake with them."Stay Wonky":D

Nope, just looked it up though - it's not a wood if you were thinking of buying it
It's where Keeping Up Appearnaces was filmed apparently.
I Googled it and spotted the link to the TV show, too. :rotfl:
LOVED your SLOWLYFADING initial-agram! Well done!
Same goes to WWTBR! :T
Wendywitch - you should insist on a police report so that there is a record of the crime. Don't let them fob you off with the common excuse that no crime has been committed because you got the money back, therefore suffered no loss. If someone stole your car and then you had it recovered and returned, the police would still prosecute if they caught the culprit, regardless of your having suffered no overall loss. Quote that one to the police if they refuse to provide an incident number - I did! :rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Deeeee 212 in the Big Frugal House. Heavenly Frugalmates are in the kitchen, counting fruit & veg servings to ensure they are getting their 5-a-day. Frugalmates from hell have gone to blow their grocery budgets on alcohol and fags! :rotfl:
Does anyone remember the pre-show advertising, where it broadcast the Big Brother vegetable garden? What happened to that?Back on planet Frugo, I've managed the 'Spratt' household's 5-a-day no problem today! :j
Brekkie included fresh OJ (1)
Lunch was beans on toast served with an extra can of mixed pulses/bean salad (2)
Dinner was an odd 'store cupboard concoction' of hm carrot & coriander soup (1) followed by hm fishcakes with sweetcorn (1), mixed veggies (1), roast potatoes and Mediterranean style cous cous.
I've just picked a head of broccoli, a bowlful of salad leaves and 4 good sized apples from the tree. The broccoli and lettuce leaves are now in the fridge and the apples are stewing for making a pie for tomorrow.
is for tomorrow's tea, when I'll have it with cauliflower and sauceI reserve the right not to spend.

I've watched very little of BB this year, but I remember Davina talking about the vegetable garden - you'd think Rex would be in his element if he really knew what he was talking about!
I've got my frugal free courgettes tonight. I've cubed and fried them off with an onion and a little bit of garlic. I'm going to layer them with some slightly dry - needs using up- grated cheese and pour over a mix of double cream padded out with a couple of egg yolks and a bit of milk - I've only got a tiny bit of cream!!!
I'd love to have a go at growing something - really, really simple. I guess it's too late to start anything now?"Stay Wonky":D

... I sometimes see BB but have never seen the elusive vegetable garden.

How simple is this?
It's never too late - get yourself a deep tub (I have an old kitchen swing bin that someone was throwing out) and some compost/soil mix or, even, a cheap grow bag (£1 - £1.50). All you need to do is keep a couple of supermarket potatoes lying around until they start to sprout a bit and then stick them in a layer of compost in the bottom of the bin. Make sure you have plenty of drainage holes in the bottom and that it's sitting somewhere safe. The potatoes should begin to grow within a week or two. Each time the leaves grow through the surface of the soil or compost, cover them up with another layer and just keep doing this until the tub or bin is almost full then let the leaves keep growing. The potato plants will eventually flower then begin to wilt. When this happens, you can start digging around for some potatoes and pick what you need as you need them. Save any compost you dig out back into the empty bag as this then does for other things, like peppers. I just save the seeds out the middle of my peppers, dry them out and then plant them. I got so carried away, I ended up setting up my own web pages so I could save all the pictures of my progress.I reserve the right not to spend.

Hi All, I'm feeling a bit behind with all the posts having only read a few lately. I have too much going on to think clearly ATM. I sat down at 10.55 having been up and doing stuff since 7.15am but have done lots of decorating and sorting. I watered the lotty in the dark but as I've not watered anything up there for about five days things were desperate.
I'm not even going to try to think of a thingy for my name (see I can't even remember the word:o ), far too many o's
Marru - I've sent a letter. I've wanted a dog for ages but OH dislikes them intensely, however, he has just had to retire and has now relented, especially as I have put up with so much lately - and will contuinue to have to do so till at least 2016:rolleyes: he is trying to find out which breed I want. My daughter and I fell in love with greyhounds at Discover Dogs at Crufts least year and I really think I could rescue one (or 2 or 3) when the time is right. How many would I fit in a Micra? It is horrid how they end up when their racing days are over. Anyway, at the moment I would rather have chickens and put the dog 'on hold' as although OH is trying to be fair and kind I think the thought of a dog in the house sends shivers through him.
Sorry to ramble - too tired to think. Make the most of everyday - you never know what you what's round the cornerDoing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
:grouphug: for looby-lou. Hope that your circumstances feel better soon.
I know how it is, suddenly finding that what was a decent income [in one's own eyes] is certainly not enough any more to do more than bob along on the lower levels compared to the occasional [once every 6 months] visit to the theatre, the cinema [once every 5 months], buy a book [once a month] or even have your hair cut [once a year] ... that's all gone now, and we're down to "take the money out in cash at the start of the month and work out of envelopes" strategies. How we'll cope with higher inflation I don't know ..... at least I have most of my winter's fuel already bought. If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0
