I run an online store specialising in Sign Language products for babies and children.
Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!
  • When my children were younger, I've sold Tupperware and then Ann Summers stuff, but I'm not a very good saleswoman!

Now I cant work in London anymore as we are in Lincolnshire, I started to buy day old chicks and rear them to point of lay, plus we have some meat chickens and my partner would like to sell them on the internet, but there's a lot involved there what with all the legislation and health and hygiene etc, but the point of lays are going well, shame we only have half an acre!

Its not really what I want to do, but my partner, however, he isn't very good at rearing them, he just likes taking the money!!!!

It doesn't pay much though when you think of the time involved, but this thread is very interesting, and as I am quite a shy person, I'm on the look out for something I can do 'behind the scenes' instead of in the limelight!!!!

Where do you get things though to open ebay or on-line shops. Obviously, one person sells clothes and another jewellery but once you've decided what your interest is and your market how do you source the items?

That's something I'd like to know more about too. I can see what sells on ebay and what's popular - would love to know how I could buy in cheaply. Wholesalers?

    Hi,
Welshnoonoo, I wish I had your ability to market and drive traffic if you're getting 1300 visitors! Well done! I just feel as though I'm swimming against the tide with that just now!

Hi June - yes it is not easy. I started out after I finished a HND in computing as a 'mature student' (don't ya luv that phrase!). I was marketing other people's websites but the market went from people knowing nothing about search engine marketing to all of a sudden them wanting to be No1 in Google in a nano-second and it was very stressful! So now I market my own websites and my husband's website but I also do a bit of consultancy for others who know what I do.

It is a huge subject but I think if I were in your shoes, I would start with a small Google Adword campaign and take it from there.

You could always advertise on my site for £40 a year! ;)

I guess my main advice to any would be web businesses is - be patient - nothing happens overnight. Good Luck all of you!

    I have a split personality.

My family friendly one, is that I design, make and sell handmade jewellery, beaded gifts and beaded flowers, also do the odd craft fair (which I have been doing today.

My 'growed up' side is that I am an internet !!!!!! star, not quite to the extent that UKPrincess is, but I am working on it, I seem to do well selling articles of clothing at the moment :j

I´m game for joining a ´let´s go self-employed´thread or group, it´s something that would suit me perfectly, as ever it´s knowing what to do though!
  • Once I have enough money saved up I am going to start up an online business selling and hopefully do some party selling. I just dont know what to chose and which ones dont have a huge layout?

Would prefer something with 'drop ship' so I dont have to have much storage nor have to pay a lot .

Cant wait. Im going to have to learn how to use E-bay for selling to make the money to get started (once I know how much it is to set up whatever I decide to do!).

    :D

    Usborne childrens books.

Been doing Usborne for nearly 2 years since I made the decision not to return to work after having my 2nd child. Best decision ever and I can honestly say I love my job !!!!
