Well the all white flour mixture turned out good. I think I will get 2 loaves of bread out of that mix. Is that the norm? I'm going to try Thriftlady's rolls too this week. Been to the shops today and got more flour.
Bread isn't fattening is it?
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Im so sad, i couldn't get to sleep at all last night, was thinking about making olive and tomato bread:p And when i did get to sleep i was dreaming about a slice smothered in hummus.
Needless to say the dough is rising right now0 -
I have a bog standard cheapo BM £29 from Woolworths. It has no settings on it so once its started it goes through to the end. I just felt that my first batch of this bread, although it was nice, it wasn't anything to write home about. Plus as I said before my oven bread tin was a bit big. I had to set my breadmaker away with it empty and then listen for when it stopped kneading :rotfl: then I quickly opened the lid and dropped the dough in while it continued its next stages. If i do it again I think i need to let the dough warm up a bit in the kitchen first as it was still very cold when I put it in so didn't rise as much as I would like. plus if you see beccatje post above I still didn't use enough dough - i was aiming for 4 x 1lb loaves when really my breadmaker is a 1.5 loaf . I've got a bit of dough left so will maybe try pizza or buns with what is left.

Could somone who has been successful with the bread please post the recipe with the type of flour & quantities used for the dumb cluck who didn't get it right? I'm desperate to get something the looks like the photos I've seen
but am in danger of giving up completely. Perhaps I'll try to make a calzone with what I have left of this batch - has anyone tried making it?

I made a half batch last night and I've just formed a loaf and some rolls to try, waiting for them to rise now so I can bake them.I only had plain flour in the cupboard so I used that,I figured if it doesn't work out the way I want I can blitz it into crumbs and use it up anyway so it won't go to waste. Any ideas how to make a softer crust rather than crusty anyone? MY OH doesn't like crusty bread unless he's having soup
oh poop it was awfulmust get some bread flour and try again

I don't know if this will help anyone, but I read somewhere a long time ago, that an unglazed large terracotta garden tile substitutes for a pizza stone. I think I will buy one next time I go to the garden centre. The worst that can happen is it breaks right??;)Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
