wish my local supermarkets did decent woopsies. we have 1 asda,2xsainsburys 2x tescos 1 aldi and a morrisons not too far away. I always look at the reduced section when I am in any of them and all that is on offer is 20p off things that are in really battered and tatty packets resealed with selotape. I am really jealous. .

I know what you mean, I go in full of hope and then nothing. Tesco has a good reduction going on on gardening and picnic things, got a thermometer for 18p :). Netto today had some good prices, including 19p for 500g bag of penne pasta and 2 litres of milk reduced to 60p, worth a look if there is one near you

Oh dear. I had a right dressing down today :naughty: from my dear mother! She was awake all night worrying about me not eating enough protein and fresh fruit & salady type food:rolleyes:. As I'm breastfeeding a 3 month-old and feeling pretty emotionally low, she may have a point . We do always have a good dose of protein in our evening meal but I haven't given any thought to breakfast or lunch. In fact, for the last few weeks, lunch for me has been one piece of toast with crunchy peanut butter (which does have some protein in it, I know) and one piece with chocolate spread :eek:. I told her "we go through loads of milk" and you can guess what her reply was... "yes, WATERED DOWN!!" Bless her, she came with a bagful of posh steak, chicken breasts, salmon fillets and cheese. But I'm not sure what I'm going to have for lunches from now on. Today I had cheese & marmite on toast, tomorrow I'll prob have boiled egg. I'm not sure I can really face a German-style breakfast though... might have to draw the line at meat & cheese for breakfast :undecided. So maybe I'll concentrate on adding fresh fruit to my fruit & fibre at breakfast time.

Whatever I eat it's gotta be quick and easy to prepare. I'm at home on maternity leave but my 3yo finishes for the summer holidays tomorrow and baby is mega clingy at the mo so I aint gonna have any time or energy for faffing about in the kitchen (much as I would love to... ). Any easy lunch ideas welcome though.

I do enjoy coming on here. Reading all your posts is my hobby for now (sad I know!). Cheers everyone.

OK, been thinking about this for a while and recent posts have brought it back to me. I hope I am not going to offend anyone, and don't know if anyone else has commented, but watering down full fat milk does not result in the equivalent of semi-skimmed.

If people like it that way, that's fine, and I don't mean to preach, but I just want people to be aware that it doesn't provide the nutritional value that is expected, particularly for children, nursing mothers (sorry don't mean to pick on anyone) and the elderly.

To get the calorie content to be equivalent to SS it would need to be diluted by about one third, but to get the fat content equivalent to SS (I think the main reason why people buy SS) it would need diluting by over a half, to about 45% FF to 55% water, reducing other valuable components as well.

Milk is such a good source of calcium, protein and phosphorus that it is a shame (IMHO) to miss out and have to supplement these in other ways, especially if you are not aware of the need to do it.

I buy FF for DH and DS, because they like it, and SS for me and DD because it is better for us. I am concerned that we all get enough calcium and phosphorus (both needed to produce sufficient bone mass) because I developed osteoporosis in my 30's and had a fractured vertebra when giving birth to my son, so apologies if i am a bit intense about it. Also been up since half past 3 to drop DS at school for a trip to Wimbledon. Got to go to work now too.

Spent only 2 pounds since Sunday, one pineapple and some growing basil.

Zzzzz (I think I may need the catnap at lunch time)

Hi there, Its hard isn't it when you are busy with LO, breastfeeding and trying basically to be a superwoman really? I still BF LO, although only two times a day now. I think the fact that I did not eat right affected me and made me even more tired. Every small step helps and I hope you manage to get some good nutrition into you. :D

Just a quick spends update from the other day..£10:21 in Wilko's & Summinsbug for milk, loo rolls etc. Having a go with Wilko embossed bog rolls @ 4-4-£1.. gotta try at least ain't cha:o

Some thieving little blighter has had my baby lekkusis away--think perhaps some "cheerful garden birds" may have helped themselves so not all bad--so I'll leave trying again till next year now. It says 12 weeks from seed >> harvest, & that takes us into October:eek:
