Dont know if everyone has had Martins Email yet, but there is a code in it for £15 off a £50 spent at waitrose:D And you can use it twice!! Is valid til 31st august. I have now officially blown my budget for July using it but i only bought store cupboard ingredients that will last. They also have a fairly decent offer on chicken.

    Thank you!!!

I'll have to have a look at that for the weekend. Mmm do I need to spend £50....

Dinks? Are these a recipe I've missed or do you mean Twinks?;)

If it's Twinks then I usually get about 60-70 out of the mix (and I eat another few 'raw' before I cook them. I make them quite small, working on the basis that my lot will eat 2-3 biscuits regardless of the size, so if I make them smaller they'll last longer!:rotfl: :rotfl:

Does anyone operate a separate 'bulk buy' budget? Just wondering as i used the Waitrose code which has now 'blown' my July budget, however it is stuff that probably wont get used in july and i only got it so i could use the code which is great. So maybe i could reduce the GC money by say £25 a month and run a separate bulk buy budget of £300 per year??? I would spend the same amount, just differently i suppose. Sorry for the rambling, just wondering if anyone else did this?

    Hey there everyone,
Well the NSD/NCD is going well so far- went out to take DS a walk/post a letter and avoided all shops :).
Made the pineapple salsa I mentioned last time, although with a few variations- will post recipe (with variations) once we taste test!, and also some veg waiting to roast in the oven to have with the enchiladas.
Anyone got any slow cooker beef curry recipes ? I have tried my slow cooker recipe book although the one in there has apples and sultanas, and also asked on the Slow Cooker thread but no replies as yet.

He He, too late...:rotfl: , but Dink will be pleased. I usually get about 60ish but like gunsandbanjos, I make them smallish coz mine will eat the same amount no matter what size (they'd be gone in a day if I only made 20! )

Welcome xredwebx, good luck on the challenge.

Excellent idea about the bulk buy budget guns&banjos, well worth a go - might start that next month as none spare this month (I might try £360 a year to give me about £30 a month, which should be good)

Zoe, I usually cook my rice as and when I need it, but only coz I use boil in the bag, and can just pop in my herbs & stuff into the water and leave it on while I sort everything else out, it doesn't seem to take that long, but I must agree with AngelNikki on this if you do want to freeze, just be careful when storing and you should be fine.

    Hi herbaholic,

thanks i think your right i think its the turnip!!

what do i do with it?

Hi Ferty, twasn't me, I posted about kohl rabbi and florence fennel, all I do with turnips is add to soups and stews and do a half and half mix of turniop and carrot to add to cottage pie.

I did post a response this morning, but then I got an email with a clicky and I clicked and link opened in my MSE window and my message disappeared  All that typing for nothing. Had a 2 NSD's in a row and need to do more, spent the past few weeks changing gas & elec, getting cheaper car insurance etc to save money. Only to get a letter from council, they sc*ewed up the council tax and they're putting our monthly payment up and back dating it to April! So all that saving... I was feeling really bad and almost fell of the MSE wagon, but then I read all your posts and some of you made me smile and I thought, if we'd not made the savings we had already we REALLY would be worse off! So thanks to everyone that shares their daily ups and downs :D

Went to the library yesterday and borrowed (I'm trying to kick my amazon book habit!) several books mostly on indian cookery as its DH's fav food and I want to cook him something nice and different this weekend, have pencilled in a few ideas. Having homemade spag bol for tea tonight with the whoopsie mince I get from Mr A last week, not on my meal plan for this week but I fancy spag bol! Breadmaker on for the crusty bread to go with it and I have double choc muffins cooling on the side. Also pulled off loads of basil leaves and popped them in freezer bags, if I didn't I'd have lost a good crop, got the plants from a free packet of seeds I grew myself so I'm well chuffed. Have loads in the freezer now ready for adding to pizza, spag bol and italian style bread mixes, just need to crumble the frozen leaves into the food when cooking :) Also used up some pears and apples to make a crumble to freeze. Last night we had the whoopsie sirloin steak with chips, peas and salad with fried onions. I'm usually rubbish at cooking meat but these came out really juicy and lush and they only cost £1! Sure there was something else I was going to say but can't recall, shall pop back later if I remember. Hope everyone is having a good day :)
