hi all, hope your all well /getting better:D ive spent the day washing
and backing cookies and choc crispies etc for kids to take into school for their last day to share between teachers and other pupils.another NSD for me,having hm chilli with rice and also hm spicy bean salsa over tortilla chips topped with grated cheese for tea...yum!
got a question too...i was always taught that rice should never be re-heated,as its a breeding ground for salmonella, however, having read loads of posts on here, many of you seem to cook and freeze it to no ill effect..is that right? am i safe to try that cause i hate cooking rice fresh if the chilli is already done, seems to take ages, thanks everyone.xfamily is me,oh,16yDS,10DD,9DS&17month old DS,2dogs,3cats,4bunnies,5 ex battery hens&5fish.GC challenge-/£300:pspends already this month-animal food-£28,mr T shop-£119.plus local shop spends total spent £257,:j0 -

Zoe If you want to cook and freeze rice you have to make sure that you cool it as quickly as possible and refridgerate/freeze it within an hour of cooking. Always reheat it thoroughly.
"It's true that you could get food poisoning from eating reheated rice. But it's not actually the reheating that's the problem – it's the way the rice has been stored before reheating.
Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, bacteria that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive. Then, if the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores will germinate into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. Reheating the rice won't get rid of these toxins.
So, the longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that bacteria, or the toxins they produce, could stop the rice being safe to eat.
It's best to serve rice when it has just been cooked. If that isn't possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within one hour) and keep it in the fridge for no more than one day until reheating.
Remember that when you reheat any food, you should always check that it's piping hot all the way through, and avoid reheating more than once."

Dont know if everyone has had Martins Email yet, but there is a code in it for £15 off a £50 spent at waitrose:D And you can use it twice!! Is valid til 31st august. I have now officially blown my budget for July using it but i only bought store cupboard ingredients that will last. They also have a fairly decent offer on chicken. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

Hi All,
room for one more? Me and H2B always overspend so I'm going to try budgetting better from now on. (well start Friday when he gets paid!)
Any ideas for cheap but heathly meals would go down well, as we're desperate to lose a few pounds too (a bit more than a few!)
No idea what is a good amount of money, and as we do weekly shops i'm going to £50 per week for now. Once we move house in August i'm determined to do either biweekly or monthly shops, with only popping out for fresh veg and fruit every week. wish me luck and good luck to everyone else!
