What do you term as tipping 'well' or 'reasonably' though?
When you say even 50p helps, it seems as though tipping reasonably means at least £2? What's tipping well?0 -
Sorry didn't mean my last post was having ago at you just that manners is a two way street
Yes manners doesn't costs okay we all on occasions get a little stressed and have bad day and perhaps a little off with people.
I don't like being rude to customers, if I did all time I think I would pack it in as I do enjoy the job, I do sometime is feel at times is it worth doing, particularly when I get a nights bad wage despite working really hard, I rarely ever have time to sit down and have a drink, its rush all time. I don't mind being very busy either in fact I like the challenge, there are occasions when I don't which are rare.
I think if drivers are genuinely nice, polite and actually talkative then they may deserve a tip. Orders being late are not always down to the driver, people have to wait when its peak time, as in my shop there are only 3 cooks two do main meals and one does the chips, curry etc plus you got customers who come in and want food. Parties can slow things down as you have to concentrate on there food and it has to be out quick as it wont fit a insulated case so I take it in a box. There are only two drivers so as you can imagine driving 3-4 miles and back and seeing a couple of customers all take time
In a ideal world everyone would be seen quickly, I like getting to customers quickly they seem more happier and you are happy they are. Unfortunately life isn't that smooth you cant predict how busy you get and the distance covered. In peak time it can take around an hour to get the meal 7.30pm until 8.45pm-9pm
Many drivers as I said before and others said are on minimum wage, we have to pay our own petrol and run our own car, and I try to drive encomony because it really hurts my pocket
I would say 50p-£1 is very nice tip not a lot of money to customers but if everyone did that I would get around £10-£20+ and would just about cover the nights running costs and have decent wage
Example
I got £39 last night for 4 hours Plus tips £11 I did around 45 miles last night factor in running costs of car and it wasnt too bad. I roughly get 1 in 3 that tip average I would say is about 70p.
4 hours @ £4 an hours
19 calls @ £1
2 calls @ £2
Some nights I hardly make any tips at all. I am genuinely polite and chatty to customers even when at times some are grumpy.I was actually talking about customers, savemoney!
Someone said it pays to be polite and to tip, as they work at dominos and treat these customers better.
I was pointing out that I am always polite to the person on the phone, and to the driver. That, I consider good manners and a given!
But it is different to tipping imo. Bad manners are unacceptable, whereas tipping is optional.0 -
I dont tip...would we tip the postman..the bloke is being paid to deliver food, end of.0

I say it again you cant compare, shop workers or postman or Tesco drivers or whatever
Many takeaway drivers pay for own car own petrol etc. A postman does not and I been a postman and you get much better pay than a delivery driver
In fact a postman does usually knock on your door and wait for money, or spend as much time on you to give you a service.
I would gladly take min wage and drive firms car/van and not have to pay anything else
A delivery driver does not get sick pay, or holidays either nor a pension usually
Have you ever used a car, you will know how much it costs to run if you did. £4 an hour plus £1 a call can add about £7-£10 at most an hour, £6-£7 petrol and other costs to, insurance, deprecation, serving, hell cars get a good beating round town and fuel economy is poor (stopping and starting) plus you run the risk of having car damaged, if you going to say they get paid, please at least factor in other costs as well it really adds upStevie_Baby wrote: »I dont tip...would we tip the postman..the bloke is being paid to deliver food, end of.0 -

unless you are self employed you are entitled to holidays by law. maybe you should speak to your boss about that.
If you are self emplyed are you declaring your earnings and paying tax?The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -
Of course you aint declaring if you did you wouldn't want to do it as pay would be even worse than it is now. I done this 18 months, not one day of sick and cant go on holiday because no one is there to replace me. I am not bothered too much about that I am just trying to convey that wages are not brilliant and you have to pay own car and mobile.
You have no contract of employment its well known
If you paid the real costs of having food delivered you would pay far more than you do now if you factored in the costs of driving, holidays etc. Does Tesco for example only charge £1 delivery?
Next day delivery £4.85 FREE on orders over £25 takeaway also gives free delivery over a certain value0 -

IMHO, I'd say 50p to a pound is reasonable, one to two pounds is tipping well and anything above that - we usually get back to the shop and go "such and such an address gave me £3 tip!" and you will be remembered by the driver who delivered to you!Blood donations to date: 10 | Type: O negative[/B][/CENTER]0 -
We have Indian food delivered and we normally give a tip of about £1.50 - £2.0

We always tip our Indian delivery guy, he is always lovely & we often have extra stuff added into the order. The regular delivery guy asks after the children & talks about the dog...& we don't even have it that often!

We buy our postman Eid presents......
To be honest, I find that those who live in a 'better off' area do not tend to give tips and do things such as pay 99p in coins (10ps etc.), not with a £1.
Other areas, the 'rougher' areas tend to give tips, take up offers, but aren't as friendly on the phone. But thats just my area.0
