Tipping takeaway drivers??!

Well same job but not quite like for like with regards to money. Most take away drivers I know use own car, pay petrol etc. I wouldn't use Tesco or asda for home delivery anyhow but if I did I probably give a small tip. I would tip take away drivers if they were nice and polite, but then some may say I would say that anyhow but I am trying to be honest. I am very honest person, I even told someone a few weeks back that they had given me too much money its only after I got back to car did I realise it was a £20 and not a tenner which I thought it was, it isn't easy to see in dark.
He give a small tip the next week but none since not that they are a regularly like every week or so.0 -
It seems most people are talking about small companies here.
We've only ever had take-away deliveries from Dominos. The drivers always have a company car or moped and I assume they don't pay petrol?
A chip shop not far from us does deliveries for orders over a certain amount (they sell Chinese food too) but it is the owner more often than not who does the deliveries. Would you still give a tip to her (assuming you knew she owns the shop)?
I guess I can see it helps when people are using their own car and it's perhaps something most of us decide on a case by case basis rather than having a 'blanket rule'?0 -
I am not sure dominoes has own car for drivers I know they are always advertising for drivers which make me wonder why they keep asking from them.0

Tescos, Asda Deliveries though. I wouldn't tip them on the last day of the Earth.
For little take-away drivers it's personal. And THEY DO remember you. You'll find that your deliveries get limited priority based on what they're doing, like 30-minutes instead of an hour.
I work in Dominos Pizza, and I can assure you, be nice, polite on the phone, be nice to the driver and you will always get priority deliveryobviously we won't delay your order if you aren't nice, but if you are horrible then you are unlikely to get free stuff and things.

Some Dominos do, mine don't. We don't advertise for drivers. But drivers at my store get paid less than I do for taking telephone calls.....0 -

I wouldn't dream of being anything but polite on the phone, or to the delivery driver. That is a separate issue to tipping imo. Manners are expected, tips should not be!0 -
That works both ways does manners, you do get some rude customers. Some customers expect you to ring them when you arrive, it isn't my fault they don't have a door bell but they assume it is the take away that pays the calls, well not always and from £1 I get 50p of that can be taken with a phone call with basically leaves me not far from being out of pocket when you factor in petrol and running costs. I rarely ring customers because I usually refuse and I on rare occasions brought stuff back
Last week went to a block of 4 flats, it said on receipt 45, something road. I go there and see 4 door bells no flat number. I ring all bells, guy on bottom flat was the only one who answered he said all other bells don't work. I hate to knock on all 3 flats doors going up stairs on each floor, mean while leaving my car in a area notorious for smack heads. Why is it so hard for customer to give the proper details? Flat number for example.I wouldn't dream of being anything but polite on the phone, or to the delivery driver. That is a separate issue to tipping imo. Manners are expected, tips should not be!0 -
Aww just tip the Guys/Girls... 50p wouldn't kill anyone even!
After reading the replies from people who actually work for these companies, I will tip them even more:cool:0 -

But in your job you probably don't have to be out on the road with all the maniacs, driving round for 10 minutes because it's dark and none of the houses have visible numbers, walking around the dodgiest areas in your town because you couldn't park anywhere closer or standing in the rain/freezing wind on a customers doorstep while they hunt for the payment?
I understand you saying that if people can't afford to do the job then they shouldn't, but then if all the drivers left, who would deliver your takeaway?
I started at Dominos as a delivery driver, am now a manager in training although I do deliveries occasionally. Even 50p tip is appreciated. the 2 stores I work in, our drivers have their own cars, and most of the drivers get 95p per delivery. If a driver has only taken 6 deliveries, and hardly any tips, he might only go home with £7 or 8 - depending on where the deliveries were, that might not even cover the petrol he has used.
I have to say, the worst customers are not the ones who don't tip at all, but the ones who order £19.99, give you a £20 and tell you to keep the change.
Let me just say, if we know you tip well, or at least reasonably, we will remember your address and then argue abut who gets to deliver to youBlood donations to date: 10 | Type: O negative[/B][/CENTER]0 -

I was actually talking about customers, savemoney!
Someone said it pays to be polite and to tip, as they work at dominos and treat these customers better.
I was pointing out that I am always polite to the person on the phone, and to the driver. That, I consider good manners and a given!
But it is different to tipping imo. Bad manners are unacceptable, whereas tipping is optional.0
