Sorry to hear of your news Lucielle - hope you are all ok. Nothing like clearing the head like a good canter!

Sky - my nan learned to ride after watching me with my horse for many years. She was 65 and had just recovered from a heart attack so you are never too old! She has had to give up now because her hips are too bad (she is now 78) but always says that she wishes she started sooner. x x

Lucielle, I don't know how old your children are, or how they are going to react (obviously early days) but when my dad died, we gave my DD a notebook for her to write her thoughts in. Then, if she couldn't sleep, or got upset, but didn't want to trouble me, or talk about it with friends who she thought wouldn't understand, she could write it in her journal. I also gave her the phone number of a counselling line for children going through bereavement (freephone number but I can't remember who - probably CRUSE) and said that she could always ring them if she felt she needed someone else to talk to.

She was 11 at the time, and the simple fact that she had these things if she needed them helped her. She did write in the journal, but as far as I know she never called the number, but she had it if she needed it, without any pressure from us.

  • Hi Lucielle

So sorry to hear of your sad news. Its hard all round and particularly on young children.

My OH's Dad has been ill lately and I was dreading telling the children. However they took it very well and each dealt with it in their own way, very positively.

    Take care

Been and had filling done. Desperate for a coffee but will have to wait until I can feel my mouth again. Bought some food shopping as DS1 is cooking tomorrow, just realised I have forgotten the mushrooms, will get some tonight on the scout run. Forgot to say yesterday was a NSD as I have signed up for 17 in October. Maybe a tad ambitious in view of recent events and half term looming. Will try my bestest.

this is the website I was talking about for the children - it has a freephone number and an email support thing as well. I just liked the fact I could give them this so that if they needed to offload they could do so whenever they needed to do so.

Thanks Hypno. Mentioned to DD1 about writing her feelings down and she liked the idea I will pass this information out to the chaps. Funeral arranged for Monday pm. OH on his way home but will not be back until late. He is not going back to work until next Wednesday.

Farrier was too busy to do the boys today. They are booked in for next week. My boy was good when I took him out on his own. Sometimes he can be a real pain. Managed a couple of hours at work, in again in the morning and hopefully over the weekend before we go to the funeral.
