Monthly Savings v Lump Savings
Lloyds Bank are offering 2.50% ("Your interest is paid annually on the anniversary of the account opening") for monthly savings of £25 - £250. What would the yearly interest on this account equate too compared to if I left the money in the Santander Account currently offering 1.5% ("1.50% AER/1.49% gross on balances up to…

Income shares - any Advantage?
I see that HL are extolling the merits of certain high income shares ....between 5 and 6 percent p.a. . As someone who doesn't need any income from my holdings and therefore has them all on dividend reinvestment to get capital growth is there any advantage to me in investing in such shares?

Birmingham Midshires warning
After using my favourite money site (no not moneysupermarch!, this one! [oo I wonder if it is actually called that in France] ) I opted to open an account with Birmingham Midshires to stick my savings in as my Virgin ISA interest rate just fell off the edge of a cliff. Ok I was a bit late in getting round to it but it has…

Best place for cash?
I am getting my AVC in January. It's about £13000 and I intend to put about £9000 in my two TSB and Tesco accounts to earn 3% from that. Not sure where to put the rest. Possible choices are in my existing S&S ISA or perhaps premium bonds? Any other ideas? Cheers!

Alliance Trust & VAT refund
I had a letter from AT advising that HMRC had allowed refund of VAT on an ISA account interest. I returned the claim form well before the cut-off date. I'm now told by AT that I did not return the claim form so no refund will be paid. Anyone else had this problem?

Bond dilemma 007
Excuse the James Bond reference in the title. I couldn't help myself. In December 2017, when I was mildly younger and considerably more ignorant about investing, I bought the following bond for about £2,300... http://www.hl.co.uk/shares/shares-search-results/b/bank-of-ireland-13-38-uns-perp-sub-bds I bought it just because…

Options to save/invest lump-sum for education fees
A relative has indicated that they will give a sum around £75000 to help with our kids education fees. I'm thankful and delighted but don't know what to do with it until required, and what tax implications I need to think about. I want to save/invest it such that there is minimal risk of loosing the capital and a…

Property mortgage or shares?
Have a cash lump sum of £200,000. Options: Add £200,000 to S&S portfolio (diversified low cost global index trackers) with reasonable long-term growth assumptions 5-6%. At drawdown plan to take 3.2% income p.a. Pros: Potentially best long-term return. Cons: Sequence of returns risk early in drawdown. Pay off BTL mortgage…

Selling Fund 'Mid Year'. Do I lose Dividends?
I'm assuming that if I sell a fund a month or so before its dividend date I will not receive any dividend (not even pro-rata). Is this correct? Should I therefore take into account the dividend date of a fund before selling it? And ditto when buying funds?

To drip, or not to drip.
I am currently drip feeding £1500/month into the Vanguard FTSE All-Cap through a S&S ISA with HSD. I have been doing this for the past two months and so far the fund has gained around 3%. I have filled my 2017/2018 S&S ISA and so have the remaining £17000 sitting there as 'cash'. I am also in the process of transferring my…

iShares not dealable since start of year
Checking my ISAs this week found that all iShares are not dealable for either buy or sell on the Share centre platform currently. Still waiting on a callback from customer service to find out when this situation is going to be resolved. Assuming this is due to Blackrock's non compliance with new regulations?

Lifetime ISA Question
Hey All, I've looked on tons of different websites about Lifetime iSA's and they all answer the same questions, but don't make it entirely clear on what the money can be used for. Imagine now I have £10,000 in my Lifetime ISA, the bonus would be £2,500 taking me up to £12,500. Can that £12,000 be used to do option 1, or…
