External wall insulation - Risks?
I now know NOT to get the spray foam insulation, even if it's the open cell one as mortgage providers devalue your house to zero, and will remain this way for a few years However I was wondering if there are issues with external wall insulation, including say breathability, damp, that sorta stuff?

Any solar friendly ovens?
I have a bog standard 2600w oven with manual dials. I have the option of using the bottom element only which is around 1300w but it takes a very long time to preheat (20min+) and then struggles to maintain the temperature when frozen food is put in. I've tested the impedance of the element and it's within specification so…

A Single Solar Panel
All I have some space on my back edition and thought it would be great if I could install a single 400W solar panel and install it up there. Sadly, unlike in Germany where they can plug panels into the walls, things aren't so simple here. So if I bought a micro-inverter, what would I need to buy to hook the panel up to the…

The problem of charging an EV for those without a driveway
I live in a suburban semi and in front of my house is a pavement between the house and the road. I could use on-street charging but the charge is much higher than if I could use my own charger with a tariff like Octopus Go. So, the question is how to get the cable to the car without causing a trip hazard. Going over the…

Evergen/Social Energy Migration & Microgeneration issues
Afternoon all, Another Social Energy/Evergen post I'm afraid.... Not sure if anyone else has suffered the same issue but following Social Energy going under and supplier of last resort process etc, I've been trying to get a copy of the DNO microgeneration confirmation e-mail from my installer, Evergen. Initially, I was…

Power factor
What effect would power factor have on battery storage systems (read as Inverter + Battery)? Is this purely academic or does this affect the usable power which can be extracted from batteries? I have noticed the power factor (on EM115 meter for Givenergy) to range from 0.2 to 0.9, the lower values when the power…

Alternative to spray foam?
Hi So I've seen this https://www.mortgagestrategy.co.uk/news/spray-foam-insulation-leaves-250000-homes-in-mortgage-limbo/ So, I really wouldn't want any spray foam insulation. What's a better form of insulation? One that doesn't have other issues down the line?

Domestic Battery Storage Systems - Energy Storage Response Times (Ramping Delays)
Hi AllI've seen mention of energy storage response times ranging from virtually immediate where UPS/EPS backup is required right through to somewhere around ~30 seconds of power ramping (both up and down), which obviously results in huge differentials in battery system viability or payback calculations. This thread is…

Spare Solar - SOLiC 200 or Solar iboost - Thoughts?
After 1 or 2 issues with our solar installation that I hope are finally resolved (time will tell), I'm conscious that we will have spare solar generation (in coming months) that I'd sooner not feed back to the grid. This morning my 'man' chores were sequenced, load and run washing machine, when finished follow with check,…

Savings Calcuation: Eddi vs. Variable SEG tariff
Greetings! I'm considering purchasing an Eddi diverter to pre-heat my 250L indirect unvented cylinder for most of the year (vs. sell to Octopus Outgoing Agile). A couple years ago, the maths didn't work in favour of diverter payback. Fast forward today, and assuming an: 1. import tariff of .29p 2. export tariff of .20p 3.…

Lux LXP 3600ACS Problems
Hi All New member needing help in setting up my Lux inverter. I have 4 Pylon US 2000B + 1 Pylon US 2000 batteries connected, the type B battery being the master. Understand energy use of appliances
I have recently installed solar panels and want to optimize usage. One issue I have is that my washing machine for example will tell me how much energy is used for the different cycles, but doesn't indicate if this is principally in the first few minutes as cold water is heated up, or if it is spread throughout the cycle.…

Buying panels with credit card
I want to order 4 solar panels online but every site I've tried wants payment by Klarna or some other third party, so no Section 75 protection. For a transaction of £600 - £700 with an unknown company I feel that would be a bit risky. Any suggestions please?

Solar Panel optimisers
We’re having solar panels fitted in a couple of weeks (14 panels), south facing roof. At the moment there is no shading at any time of the day, but there are some big oaks to the rear of our house that may potentially in the future shade the house (not our trees so cant be pruned) - This is probably unlikely, but it’s a…
