In-roof versus on-roof PV? (GSE integration)
We have three roof surfaces we're willing to put solar PV on. One is already covered and is using GSE mounting. When we went and got quotes everyone had some additional costs if we want to do the same for the new ones, and also some panel differences. Are the only real considerations: * How it looks * Panel options *…

New to Solar PV and getting quotes
Waiting on my Tesla Model 3 being delivered and decided I would look into getting Solar PV installed. I wouldn't be doing this on the basis of ROI but more along the lines of cheaper fuel for the car and saving house running costs. I've done some research but don't have any particular allegiance to any brands. My house has…

LeakBot
I have during the past week installed a LeakBot which strives to monitor water usage and identify leaks within the household. Has anyone else here used a LeakBot?

Why aren't my batteries discharging below 18%?
The inverter on my panels has gone down so for the first time since they were installed in April I expected my batteries to discharge completely (or at least down to 5% which I believe the newer Pylontech 2400's go down to). However, the Solis Cloud app says they have 18% and it is not going any lower. I have 4 x 2400…

Does the carbon cost of new fridges and freezers outweigh the efficiency carbon savings?
[Note: I've edited both the title and the text to make my question clearer!) My 15-year-old fridge and freezer still work fine but I want to save the planet! I know that new models will be much more energy-efficient but what about the embodied carbon in the new appliances? Will that outweigh the carbon savings from…

Adding additional PV + battery and quotes are all over the place
We are looking at expanding on our current PV installation and also add some battery storage so have gotten a few quotes. However, they are all very different! I can put the three up later, just have to format all of the data. House is pretty new and 100% electric including GSHP and 300l immersion tank. Current state: * 11…

West Midlands Quote

I have the following quote: 4.44KW system size 3,426 estimated annual generation £5,995 cost for system This is for 12 SolarWatt panels Clenergy Mounting Kit Solis Single Phase Inverter (3.6000 kW…

Do you clean your panels?
I have had my solar panels for around five years but I have never cleaned them. I did have a low payment from the FIT last time, around half of what I would have hoped for. I do have bird poo on the panels, as my TV aerial is above them, but this poo has been there for more than a years. Window cleaner, DIY, how do you…

Is my Inverter dead?
Just noticed my panels aren't generating anything. I had panels fitted 7 years ago with a Solis 3.6kw single phase Inverter. The Inverter power light is on but the operation light is flashing and the display just keeps saying 'initialising' whilst the inverter clunks intermittently. Is it dead? I think it is under warranty…

Free solar panels?
A friend that lives in Leeds has recently had free solar panels fitted I thought that free solar panels were no longer being funded. He tells me it's a government scheme. I got solar panels fitted over five years ago and my FIT is around 5p. He is saying he needs to get them registered for the FIT and he is looking at…

Hot water debate
I know this subject gets debated a lot, but I have a slightly different question that I haven't noticed discussed recently.Back in February when I had solar installed, I also put in a 1.5kW immersion heater, controlled on a timer which has proved to be very effective at using our solar generation or off-peak electricity.…

Solar panel Layout
Hello, so I've recieved the lay out for my Solar layout. I'm not convinced it looks right and must be a better way. They say the yellow line represents a 450mm edge which should be around the whole array. So I've came up my own designs on paper, I've scaled these as accuratley as I can. Option 1 This is theirs which I'm…

Quotes for solar any good
I am in the market for solar in an effort to mitigate the impact of the forthcoming rises and try to be a little greener. My annual consumption is just over 3,000kWh.I am gas fired heating and hot water. Everything else is electric. The roof slopes face roughly east-west. I have had several quotes all varying in price and…

Alternative to AC - Might be useful going forwards
I've seen this https://www.greensquare.co.uk/blog/2020/8/19/air-conditioning-how-cooling-your-home-can-be-from-clean-renewable-energy-too And that does seek pretty decent as a way to not only heat your house but to then also recover that same heat, for use later on. I'm sure they're not the only company doing that too

dirty solar panels, warm weather, lower power output?
hi guys, had solar installed about a month ago - at points i have seen my solar generate as high as 7.5kw at any one moment, but at the moment the highest i have seen them hit is about 5.7kw - clear skies, is the warmer weather affecting my output? or we also had some kind of dust / sand storm and everyones cars look…

Questions from newbies! PV capture 'capping' ? Different PV voltages?
Hi all, We are new to the solar generation world and are trying to understand the wealth of information we are getting from our monitoring application. We have a 6.84kWh solar panel array (18x JA Solar 380W Mono panels) on a south facing roof in Northumberland, with a Luxpower LXP 3600 Hybrid inverter and 2x Aoboet…

Expanding a 100W off grid 12V solar system
I currently have a 100W panel on my shed with a charge controller and 100Ah battery supplying 12VDC to some LED lighting inside and outside the shed plus the pump and led's in a water feature. I'm looking to add another 4 100W panels, upgrade the charge controller, add another battery and an Inverter to enable me to run a…

Solar install recently (boiler replacement options)
We’ve recently had solar and storage installed. 5.2kw Panels and 9.6kwh batteries. We have a Baxi back boiler now needs replacement. The boiler has bitten the bullet and the whole system is very old and woefully underperformed. I had planned to swap out our electric shower to use the hot water tank to use the spare solar…

2kw system over east and west roofs. What are your experiences?
I'm having A solar array installed 3 panels on West and 3 on East. Giving me a 2kw system. Looking at my energy bills I use around 2100kwh a year, so quite a low user I'd imagine. I'm usually out between 8am to 5pm Mon to Thursday Fri to Sun In and out a bit more during the day, but I don't think my energy consumption…

Solar PV is it worth it?
I was one of the first in my part of Yorkshire to get spv and got something like 53p per unit, cost was £14k. We left 6 years ago and I get regular grief from the other half about it 2/3 times a year. Is it worth getting now? We have several different rooves facing SSE ESE and WNW.
