Hi, asking for advice on holiday pay entitlement for my sister. She started a new job on the 8th July. Unfortunately it’s not going well and she’s secured another job to start on 26th September, so will be handing in her notice on Monday (required to give one weeks’ notice). The company have a policy that employees can’t…

Hi I’m in full time employment and my wife is on maternity leave. Full pay for 6 months then statutory pay. Can she work (ie sole trader or through limited company) during maternity leave or restricted? If so is it better I register as a sole trader or set up limited company to sell goods and services online? Thanks

Change of working hours and holiday
I used to work 8:30 - 5:30 with one hour lunch break. Our working hours have changed so that we are now working 8:30-5:30 Monday to Thursday but finish on Friday at 5pm one week and 12:30 one week 2 with now half an hour lunch break. This is still the same amount of hours worked over a 2 week period. However, whenever we…

Would it be acceptable to “Rat” out a work colleague?
Not sure how this would go down but I’m considering it. The issue being small manufacturing firm, one guy in particulars only interested is getting overtime, he achieves this by bringing everything to a standstill and doing nothing. Now me personally I hate overtime, I’ll do everything to avoid it which is why this is so…

Civil service job offer problems
Posting on behalf of my partner. He's had a job offer for a relatively senior civil service role pending for 2-3 months, they have just agreed a start date early next year due to long notice periods. They have now said he will have to start on a temporary contract until the security check is complete. If its not…

Pay regarding secondment gone perm
Just wondering on opinions, on this secondment permanent pay conundrum A year ago took a secondment for a more technical role, to give some scale my old role was advertised at circa 30-40k depending on experience, and I was on 30k. Role I seconded to was 40k + negotiable Secondment done very informally (I know, I know) and…

Opinions on the role the UK Director has in an International privately owned Limited Company.
Can't find much info on this online. And we're still working through with the legal dept as to whats going on. But basically, Is it a usual thing for a (privately owned) worldwide brand to ask an existing senior employee to be made the Director of their UK Ltd co. But tell them their job & job title wont change (apart from…

Pay Rises - How Do They Work Where You Are?
I work in an industry that if everyone gets a pay rise, it's the role that gets it rather than the person. That means if the role pays £20k and gets a £5k pay rise, everyone currently working in that role is now on £25k. However, if someone new starts 4 weeks after the pay rise, they will also get the £25k salary. However,…

Changing Jobs P45/Final Pay/Tax
Hi all, This is a bit complex with several moving parts, so bear with me. I left my previous employer back in July (8th), they had irregular pay dates so I could be paid on the 6th/8th/10th depending on the month/year. They're a large company. My new employer (start date 11th July) pays me on the last day of the month.…

China says - do not list Taiwan as a country on your website
I am ropable. We have an offfice in China. Apparently a Chinese customer "complained" to my Chinese colleague there that there is an "error" in our online order form. The error is that the dropdown list of countries includes Taiwan. A quick Google suggests that my company is not alone in being asked to remove Taiwan or…

ET1 form missed deadline
My son was fired in March by a nightmare boss who owed him wages and expenses and who had habitually used offensive and discriminatory language. My son took the case to acas as potentially quite a lot of money involved, maybe £10-12k. My son has slow processing and is best described as “ambient”, acas started early…

Employers NI contribution question
A friend was offered a temporary job on the phone via an agency being offered £x per day. Now he is going to start they say they will pay him £x - 10% via an umbrella company - the 10% covering things like employers NI contribution etc. Is this normal? In my line of work I have never heard of that. Thanks in advance

Private hire driving
Hi guys, I’d appreciate any opinion on this job role, or anyone that’s maybe done it? I own my own car , I personally like driving. Does this make a good living the fees associated with this would be possibly £200 a month insurance, 140 fee to company , and then fuel. I don’t want to pay for all the licensing and then not…

£200 paid in pension?
Sorry if this is in the wrong place I think this is more employment related than pension. So I started a second job - a retained firefighter. I got paid £2600 this month before deductions. My pension was just over £200 though is this normal? In any other jobs I’ve worked I’ve never paid so much? Thanks
