Just wondering. How long was it between the death and the funeral or cremation.
My father died earlier this year. He was in the funeral home for 6 weeks. Six whole weeks, we took the earliest date the crematorium in our town had an appointment for the service and cremation. Six weeks seems a long time to be in a fridge, and he was claustrophobic in life. When I lived in Ireland if you died one week,…

Will Trust Investments
I am a Trustee for my mother's Will Trust. The Trust states that my Dad is the sole beneficiary until his death and at that point, I and my two siblings inherit her estate. Up until a few months ago - Dad benefitted from living in the house. He has now had to move into a care home and I am selling the house. This means…

Querying a Will
I have always been close to my Aunt and indeed my Uncle. We would go shopping or to the hairdressers or just a chat over a cup of tea. They told me I was a beneficiary of their Will for £5k and showed me where they kept it. They had fallen out with their daughter in law several years before which made it difficult for their…

When to Apply For Probate?
I have filled in all the inheritance tax forms and will be posting those tomorrow. My calculations are that there is no tax to pay on the estate. It says to wait 20 working days before applying for probate if there is tax to pay but, as there isn't, am I OK to apply now or is it best to wait for the 20 days? Thanks

Council Tax rebate due to deceased parent
Hi our mother passed away in 2018 and our father in 2021 leaving the house to my brother and I. We moved into the property and, after watching MSE’s program, successfully had the council tax band reduced plus a refund from the date of our father’s passing. I understand the previous owner would be due a refund too but that…

Uncooperative Joint Executor

My grandmother owned a £600,000 house. She passed intestate 8years ago. She had 6 children. I looked up the title register for my grandmas…

Co-Executor Issues
There are 3 siblings who joint executors of our late Father's will. Our Father passed away in 2021; my brother who was the first appointee as Executor on the Will, asked myself to arrange the Grant of Probate which I did willingly at the time. My Father had left £40K (approx) in his bank account, which is now in my sole…

Beneficiaries liable for fees?
The probate company which administered my late family member's estate has recently informed me of PPI-related funds they've sourced and held since 2020. Without the co-executors' prior knowledge or consent, an external company was autocratically commissioned, culminating in the beneficiaries now being subjected to 20…

Property value for estate purposes
Started off as a question about who owns my late grandparents property, which seems to have opened up new questions. When estimating the value of a property for IHT purposes, is it the value on day of death, date of grant of administration, date of probate being granted, or date of subsequent sale of inherited properties.?…
