Hi there folks, I do use Edge on windows 10 as well as other browsers Chrome and Firefox. A lot of the time on the Edge browser I am unable to login to some websites (no problem on this one) and sometimes with drop down menu I am able to select a particular item. I do use either Chrome or Firefox when the above problems…

Is mobile banking more secure than desktop banking?
Hi folks, I have always avoided mobile banking from my phone because I thought that online banking on a desktop might be more secure (I do use a separate windows installation for banking only and no general surfing) I have an android phone and in the past have read reports of Google Playstore apps containing trojans that…

Birthday Requests not Appearing on Facebook
Hi All, This may seem an odd one but a few people sent through birthday requests to my timeline that I accepted but they never appeared. I don't want the people to think that I deleted them, can anyone explain where they may have went? Thanks in advance.

Recording and smart tv
I have just been told that I pay £10 a month to use the recording/pause facility on my sky box since I cancelled my sky tv package. I have a smart Samsung tv with free view and so is there a recorder I can buy that would mean I wouldn’t need the sky box? Thanks

Good freeware .zip .rar programme?
Can anyone recommend one of these? Just downloaded PkZip trial version to unzip a file but reluctant to pay much (if anything really) for a programme I tend to use less then 3-4 times/year. I thought WinZip was free with Windows 10 but seems I was confused over this?

Parental control on YouTube
I am trying to work out how to lock the Restrictions mode on my son's YouTube. He watches it on his iPhone. I know I can tap the three dots in the corner and turn Restricted Mode on but there's nothing to stop him tapping the three dots and just switching it off again! Any ideas how I can lock it so it needs a pin code to…

Netflix - The way it works
From what I understand, I can subscribe to the premium version of Netflix via my VM V6 box. VM will then bill me on my current VM DD. My confusion lies with how Netflix identify the 4 allowable devices that can use the service. Do all devices use the same username / password or different ones. Can you use 7 different…

Setting schedule (and 'off' times!) on Nest thermostat
Got a new house. I'm used to good old-fashioned boiler programmers where you set on/off times for the heating. New house has a Nest system. I've set the hot water schedule on the Nest (on/off a couple of times a day), but the heating schedule completely baffles me. Note: I'm not using the app as we don't have internet yet…

Laptop for Uni
Hi, I am looking to purchase my DS a laptop which he can transport easily to and from Uni and use for study as well as the usual entertainment. I want to spend about £350. I have narrowed it down, with my extremely limited technical knowledge to 3. DS is studying physics, I'm not sure whether this will make a difference in…

Office or Word on iPad Pro
I intend to upgrade from my iPad Air to iPad Pro after the holiday season, I’m hoping to get a price reduction. My iPad Air is almost out of space Personally I don’t like Pages, maybe it’s because I’m not using a keypad. It’s more likely I’m used to Word on my old PC Anyway I don’t need an expensive licence for Office or…

Google mini & bluetooth
I'd like to use the Google mini to play music to an old non-bluetooth amp & speakers. I was hoping the new Nest mini would include an audio out, but that is not the case, so I'm thinking of picking up a cheap mini from eBay for about £15. How could I then connect this to my wifi? Would something like this work:…

Classic Shell replacement
As Classic Shell is said to be discontinued and is causing issues on my wife's and my brother's PCs, I thought I'd uninstall it and try without. Anyway, that was an hour ago and I've decided that I would prefer to revert to being 'old fashioned' ;) Rather than re-installing something that is no longer supported, any…

BBC iPlayer & Flash
I've been getting a warning on iPlayer that Flash won't be usable after this year. I'm (still) on Windows 7 and according to the BBC advice I need to update my browser or change it. I generally use IE and as far as I can see it's the latest version (11) and it's flagged to update automatically. I've got no problem using…

Can someone pls explain cloud printing to me
Hi, old biddy with hardly any tech knowledge so pls be gentle with me! I need to replace my ancient, wired, printer shortly. From what I've seen pretty much all printers work via 'the cloud' now. Only I'm a bit confused as there seems to be more than one cloud. Will I need to pay for 'a cloud' or is it something I can…

iPhone directions settings
When searching , for example, for a venue on the Google app or Safari app, the results show the venue with two or three options in a row: "website" "get directions" and (possibly) "opening hours". When "get directions" is selected, Safari and the Google app used to open Apple Maps with directions from current location but…
