Why are these numbers replacing apostrophes
It seems an MSE bug is interfering with apostrophes in abbreviated text......any reason why. I bet it won’t do it now. I’m puzzled. He’s puzzled. She’s puzzled. Who’s not puzzled..._

Chrome Misbehaving
Hi I hope you can help. I am running Chrome on Win 10. However it is not finding web pages; coming back with the error about a lack of an internet connection. This applies whether I type the URL into the URL bar directly or use a Google link. I press the refresh icon (the almost complete circle with an arrowhead). In about…

* Windows 7 Re-Installation: novice seeks help? *
Confession time: I'm nervous about computers. Another confession: despite best efforts, I know little about them. I do know, though, that my desktop Windows 7 PC is currently driving me mad with sudden shut downs, failed start-ups, and an ongoing inability to install Windows Updates. A friend (sadly, no longer around)…

cut down windows 10?
For a notebook with a rather limited SSD the vast majority of the disk space is taken up by win 10 leaving very little for new apps and data storage. Can win 10 be 'trimmed' to reduce it's storage needs? There will also be a bit of supplied bloatware but by size thanks relatively small. Notebook is a newish hp stream with…

4409 days old password?
Just had this appear when logging in to the MSE forums: Your password is 4409 days old, and has therefore expired. 4409? Struggling to see the logic there as: 4409/365 = 12.079 4409/52 = 84.788 4409/7 = 629.857 At my old company it was every 42 days as 42/7 = 6 so a logical format? I'm not criticising at all, just…

Adware.Elex.ShrtCln
I have tried Malwarebytes , Kaspersky , Defender and Avast but cannot get rid of the popups from this irritating infection. I have altered Chrome settings to no avail. Whatever is causing this seems to disable Windows Defender which indicates that it is "blocked by group policy". I can enable Defender with a reg command…
