It seems an MSE bug is interfering with apostrophes in abbreviated text......any reason why. I bet it won’t do it now.

Seems to be to do with Apple Smart punctuation according to posts I've read, which says to me it ain't so smart!!0
-
Until MSE fix it, switch off smart punctuation.0
-
I see it in other people's posts but never in any of my own. (Posts made using either a Win 7 laptop or a Win 10 laptop, both using Chrome browser).0

Doesn’t seem to matter what device is used. Complaints from all quarters.
What’s smart punctuation..._
AFAICs its all from Apple tablets or laptops.
Smart punctuation is where they substitute what you type for subtly different punctuation marks.
Here's an example "straight" quotes and then “smart ” quotes. See how the quotes curl in different ways at the start and end?
So if you type
" blah " it will be changed to “ blah ”
Trouble is there's soemthing incompatible with the way this website treats those smart quotes.
Note that SP does not automatically insert quotes, spellcheck does that. So you can still type its and have it changed to it's without any issues.
However if you also have SP on, the ' of it's will get changed to a different single quote that this website doesn't like and it then gets changed to the numbers and exclamation marks.

I think the issue is far too common to be limited to Apple/iOS devices.0
-
So far I haven't seen any reports of it being anything other than Apple, apparently (according to ana analysis I read) when Apple does the substitution it adds an extra character than causes the issue. Note that the smart quotes I used as an example did not have that issue.
But I had the issue when I had SP switched on on this iPad. Switched off, no issue.0 -
