How to do your own research?
When looking at selecting funds the more experienced posters rightly say to do your own research (DYOR) or due diligence. That is of course sensible - you need to know that you are investing in funds which meet your objectives. I'm starting this thread on how you do that research: what is the information to look for, where…

Question: where would be the best place to invest this £18k to get the best return. I do have a Marcus a/c with interest of 1.5% but is there anywhere better. Look forward to…

Disposing of overseas shares
Some time in 1990s or before my late father bought shares in two companies then based in Hong Kong. Now both my parents have died I'm trying to sort them out. Initially I just need a value for probate, but ultimately I probably want to dispose of them. One is still listed in Hong Kong, so I've established the 252 shares…

Lifetime ISA query - temporary non-UK resident
Hi, I have a cash LISA with Skipton BS and I’ve paid in for the 17/18 and 18/19 tax years. I ended up moving temporarily to Cyprus in February 2019 and haven’t paid in to it since. I know you have to be a UK resident to open the LISA but I’m not sure whether I’ll be penalised for contributing into it whilst being a…

What happens with ISAs after initial term?
First a cash ISA, say I put 10000 in at 2% for a year fixed , I end up with 10200 after a year. What happens next? Does the rate continue or revert to a basic savings account? Also same question for s&s isa, say I put in into index funds , will it just stay in those funds?

Help with saving please.
Hi, I currently have a Santander 123 acc & e saver with them that I pay into from 123. I have max amount in 123. I also have 2 Nationwide accounts, I feeds the other but interest was lowered & I think I am correct in saying I can’t get another at 5% because I already have one? I have read that Santander will cut rates in…

Personal stock market investing
Can anyone advise of an established UK based investment / financial advisor firm that will manage a simple portfolio of index funds (mix UK, US/Global stocks and bonds) with periodic re-balancing and reasonable annual fees? (Note: I'd do this myself but it's for a company I'm helping and they would prefer to engage a…

Can I receive the proceeds from a house sale (inheritance/probate) directly in to a savings account?
If I am selling a house but not buying another one (buyer has a mortgage) can I receive the sale proceeds from the conveyancer directly into a savings account typically? (Circumstances, but I don't think it's relevant: I bought a house recently, am paying off the mortgage in an unrelated transaction. Then unexpectly…

Mass marketing of mini bonds
I just had a bloke from Q***** Finance on the phone, cold calling me and trying to sell me mini bonds. They know nothing about me, eg whether I am a sophisticated investor. The FCA announced that they were banning mass market sales from 1 January 2020. See…

Savings interest check
It used to be possible to access a breakdown of savings interest received from different sources via HMRC’s Personal Tax Account site. Can this still be done? And, if so, how?

Share price variability
I saw NMC Health Plc was a recommened buy, so I bought some. They are up 17% and still a strong recommended buy. There is a way to go before they reach what they were last year. They were up 7% yesterday and 5% today. Lots of money to be made for people that know which way the share price will go, I am just hoping to be…

Fixed Bonds
Hello 👋 I have £35,700 to invest in a Trust Account. What with the uncertainties of Brexit, I thought to invest it for a year in a fixed bond and then review the market. I do not want to take any chances (stocks etc) as this money will be for my son’s future. I’ve seen BLME are offering 1.95% for a year’s fixed bond. Are…

Help me choose a benchmark
Hi. Im struggling to think of something sensible to benchmark my portfolio against. Its 6 companies, 100% UK equities of varying market cap, most of which trade globally. I therefore feel the FTSE all share would be sensible. However, I also think a more sensible benchmark would be whatever I would be invested in if I…

Now I am home I have been moving money gradually from savings to Vanguard. Currently invested…
