Inheritance tax seminar

Hi,
Has anyone heard of Murdoch Asset Management. I'm interested in going to an inheritance tax seminar led by them and wondered if anyone has had any experience of this company.
Many thanks

Seminars should either be treated with scepticism or outright avoided. This falls into the former category as Murdoch Asset Management are Chartered Financial Planners and should in theory be legit. They claim it is free but who do you think is paying to hire the swish country houses?
A better option would be to skip the seminar and see an Independent Financial Adviser.
From the list of seminar topics on their website, this - "Protecting your assets from care fees and simplifying probate" - is a red flag. Because those two things combined smell like Asset Protection Trusts, or similar marketing labels for an expensive arrangement that is unlikely to achieve what you want it to.
Assets don't need protecting from care fees any more than assets need protecting from grocery bills. People need protecting from being dumped in Overmydeadbody Grove, which is achieved by having assets and thereby a choice of provision. And/or good advocates.0 -
from being dumped in Overmydeadbody Grove,
I think I visited there when looking for somewhere for my Mum many years ago. A very depressing place....0 -
I recently attended a HL inheritance tax seminar. I found it very informative and there was NO hard sell. They haven't followed up with me - they said if I wanted any further assistance to contact them. From my experience I would recommend HL seminars.0

We went to an IFA seminar on retirement last summer. Lovely location, nice afternoon tea.....it did serve to tell us that there was no magic involved, and to carry on as we were :rotfl:
(slightly more hard sell than the HL sounds like!)
ETA: quite a bit on https://www.which.co.uk/money/tax/inheritance-tax/avoid-inheritance-tax-a4z5q8k6vkp7 to educate yourself, with o linked at the bottomPlan for tomorrow, enjoy today!0 -
HL don't need to hard sell as investors queue round the block to throw money at them

By all means go to a free seminar, but once you've absorbed the free info and eaten the free biscuits, it would be better to see an independent FA if you want to actually implement anything (that isn't the easy stuff like giving the money away).
When you say "I want to reduce my estate's Inheritance Tax bill" the big nationals tend to hear "I want to invest in an offshore bond with a big tax ball and chain that will tie me and my heirs to your ongoing fees".0 -

You did well to find one unless you live in the London area. For such a big company, they are pretty mean with their seminars.0 -
My Dad used Murdoch - They aren't bad and are actually IFAs although a bit on the expensive side. They were quite helpful to me after he passed away in giving advice and even offering to go through his tax returns with me for free - I didn't take them up on it in the end as it turned out to be reasonably straightforward.
I have vague memories of going to one of their seminars at Farnham Castle - I think the nibbles & drinks were good and it wasn't hard sell enough to put us off them. If they are still pushing offshore trusts though I agree with the former poster - Avoid!0 -
I would be very wary, but to be fair their website only talks about funding care costs rather than avoiding them.0
