20k to invest short-term
I have 21k sitting in a Halifax online saver (0.2%). I'll need to access this within 4-8months to pay for a house extension but I'm wondering if I can do anything with it in the meantime to maximise gains. Leave it where it is? Santander 123? Premium bonds? Any advice appreciated :j

Accumulation fund type dividends
Hi all, I've been wondering about the difference between the accumulation and income OEIC funds with regards to dividends. For income funds, I understand that the dividend is paid to the brokerage account (or your bank account), so that part seems easy enough to understand. For accumulation funds, I thought that the…

UnbeatableHire.com
You invest £35,000. They supposedly rent out motorhomes. They pay you £300 a month straight to your bank account. After 3 years you get your £35,000 back. ~10% PA return. Almost certainly a scam (related to Motorholmes?), but has anyone got further information to back that up.

Where should my money go??
Hi guys, I'm confused. I have between £3-4k sitting in my current account. (Stupid, I know :( ) Where should I place this money? My partner and I will be using this as part of a house deposit, so I'm not entirely sure how long the money can stay in a savings account or isa. What does everyone think? Thanks,

FTSE100 binary betting
OK, it's dangerous, I know! I've been doing this recently and made a couple hundred out of it. Today I placed two 5-min binary bets on IG Index (against FTSE100 going above a certain level) and despite the level not being breached, I lost both bets (and lost double my previous wins, eating big-time into the small amount of…

Best way to save for a child
I have a 9 month old, and I am thinking of starting a savings account, from now, until they get to 18 or 21. The aim is to save around £30,000 by that point, to either assist with university or a house deposit. Assuming we start saving when she's 1, and it continues until 18, that's 17 years. We were planning on saving…

Kent Reliance Fixed Rate Bond
I am thinking of opening a Kent Reliance 1 year bond. However I have been put off by the clause on their website which states: 'If you request a closure at maturity, your cheque will be posted to you on the second working day after maturity. Alternatively, the funds will be sent by bank transfer (BACS/Faster Payment)…

Really need some help (and short of time)
Hi all, I really need some help with my finances. I recently got a fairly substantial bonus at work (part salaried part commission based) but I am going travelling on 3rd July for a year and a half and I really have no clue what to do with my money. I think I may buy into my Gfs flat but that is only like 12k worth since…

Stocks and Shares ISA for a Child
Hi, Apologies is this is already discussed. I am looking to get my son (16-yrs) a Stocks and Shares ISA, part from his savings he has acquired from birthdays over the years, and the rest mine as a gift (3K). We are looking at £5k investment. So my question is, how is the gain deemed by HMRC? I fully understand that there…

SSE Shares - Independent Scotland
Firstly, I promise not to hold anyone to any information you provide :D I have saved regularly in a share scheme and have quite a few SSE shares. I like getting my dividend payment twice a year, and I suspect, this will not change if there is an independent Scotland. However, I am concerned it could effect the share price.…

Tesco Clubcard Plus
Just wondering if Tesco Clubcard Plus was still working ? This was an account launched over 5 years ago and is no longer available to new customers, but some of us still have this account. It offered double points on Tesco's shop. I could never see from the statements that I was getting exactly double, but it was certainly…

Advice on ISA for financial dummy
Hi... hoping to get some advice please? My Dad has some money in an old ISA which isn't earning any interest. He is going to lend this to me to buy a car, and I will pay him back with interest, thus helping us both out. My question is, he wants to then open a new ISA with a slightly better interest rate, for me to make…

kids savings, now what?
Hi, I've been putting money into 2 children's regular savings accounts with the Halifax @ 6% for the past year. I've had a letter to state that now the year is up, I can either leave the money in the account and it will become a young savers account (3%) or I can transfer the funds into another account and then keep the 6%…
