23year old with £290,000
Hello, This is my first post - so sorry if I am in the wrong section. I am a 23year old earning £30,000. I work for the NHS and have a pension with them. I have £10,000 in savings and no debt. I live with my parents in the outskirts of london, and save a lot of my money. Therefore getting my own place is important to me. I…

Coventry 2.5% for existing ISA customers
The great thing about this one is it allows "transfers in" from previous years. http://www.coventrybuildingsociety.co.uk/savings-and-investments/cash-isas/isareward/isareward.aspx?tab=1 Our new ISA Reward not only helps you make the most of your 2013/2014 cash ISA allowance but also allows you to transfer in previous tax…

Term deposit account
I have about £50-60k to invest for up to 3 years and not willing to risk the stockmarket. It is earning 3.2% gross until mid June so I have a few months to do some research. I won't need to touch it until 2016 at the earliest. I have a fully funded isa and due to open another one tomorrow for 2013-2014 and some index…

How many funds do you hold?
I hold 10 funds. Most of the advise I read over the year or so that I am in investing is that you shouldn't really hold more then 10. What are your views on this? Also, while I have long term plans with my 10 funds (ie just keep contributing and hold them unless I become concerned about the sector/fund/manager), I was also…

advice to start S&S portfolio
I wanted to start investing in stocks and shares with a view to holding on to them for 5+ years. I have cash ISA for savings already. I would prefer a managed plan with low to med risk. I want to start of with around 1K and monthly feed of between 100 - 200. Tried to look into this myself but was bamboozled with all the…

Money stressing me out!
Hi all, *** UPDATE IN POST 7 BELOW*** I was hoping someone here could give me some quite specific advice. I've ended up in an enviable and unenviable position, and have a lot of cash lying around and could do with being told where to store it. Basically I was in the process of buying a BTL, and was diagnosed with cancer.…

Applied online for ISA before 5th April - not completed yet, does it matter?
Hello there, I apologise if this has been asked many times - I did a quick search online and in the forum here but couldn't find a specific answer. I have left applying for a new ISA very late this year. Many reasons, (moving house one of them, among others.) Anyhow - I completed an online application for the Tesco 2.3%…

Time in the market
Evening, Would like your opinion on the following.... My IFA has advised it isn't a great time to invest in the market, this has been ongoing for about 8months, he says we could be heading for unprecidented times in the short to medium term. This is all well and good, but I feel I am missing out on 'time in the market'.…

Interest Rates
Interesting discussion on the ISA thread about whether interest rates will rise anytine soon. Clearly the Government wants to keep interest rates very low. But the Government needs money to pay for imports, and there may come a point when the Chinese will not accept more barrowloads of freshly printed pounds. They will…

no info on interest rates for an old account, possible merger
Hi, I have a "Young Savers" passbook account with the Nationwide which I hold for my daughter. I contacted Nationwide via the website, (no specific details given) & just told them the name of the account and asked for the current interest rate. The reply was "this is not an account name we recognise". Looking on the…

How are ISA rates likely to change after 6th April 2013
I have a Nationwide fixed rate ISA due to mature toward the end of April. Nationwide rules allow nomination for reinvestment up to 3 weeks prior to maturity. Currently Nationwide are offering 3% fixed for 4yrs for maturing ISA reinvestment. Is it likely that this rate will be retained, be reduced or be increased AFTER the…

Well, Well The thread was just starting to get interesting....as they do! Checking my history in firefox brings up an invalid thread and its been deleted from the OP's list of posts. Oh…

Portfolio Building Advisory Service?
Hi Does anyone know of anyone who offers an advisory service for just designing investment portfolios? I have used the service of an IFA in the past but feel that I now prefer to manage my investments myself but would like some help/advice on just building suitable portfolios and then occasionally reviewing the performance…

Is the interest paid wrong
Please can someone confirm that I am not being thick. The interest paid on a Halifax ISA fixed at 4.25% for 3 years looks wrong. Interest is supposed to be paid annually. Don't know why 2 amounts were paid in April 2012 but together they only come to only about 0.5%. The statement looks like this. Date Description Type In…

Do I have to open a new ISA on 6th April
I'm currently happy with my ISA provider and do not want to open a new account. Does my tax free cash allowance reset from 6th April or do i have to open another ISA account to get the benefits? E.g. If I have saved £5,640 in my ISA this year and intend to save this amount next year - can i do so in the same account or do…

Do not understand my ISA
Took out Cash ISA last year for full amount with Nationwide as a Flexiaccount special ISA rate of 4.25%. Very good. Yesterday called into the High Street Branch to check what would be the best thing to do with my isa for the next year. Nothing I was told ... leave it alone as I will continue to get 4.25% until next…
