do I accept the apology cheque?
Early October I wrote to my bank regarding an investment. They didn't reply so end October I wrote again. No reply. Mid November I wrote again asking for the money and saying I never wanted to do business with them again. Almost immediately they sent me two letters (?) saying they would investigate why my questions had not…

Down from 3.05% to 2.4% on one of my accounts with them, from February 5th. And there was I feeling smug about having a decent rate.

Do the banks want my money?
This is bugging me . . . If banks want investment; and want to attract new customers; and presumably want customers to save all their hard earned money with them . . . . why are savings rates in freefall? I just had a discussion with my bank manager and she said that Lloyds are about to slash rates yet again on their fixed…

In response to his request for what we might like to see I offered I would like to see a clear explanation of negative inflation. Anyone have any…

Index tracker choices and ISA wrapper
In the first quarter of next year I'd like to start investing and have heard the index trackers are a good place to start. I've heard the FTSE Allshare or FTSE 250s have pretty good growth returns typically. But I'm not sure how to go about finding one with a low(est) TER and charges. There are some links I found on google…

First Save withdraw fixed rate bonds
Hi This is my first post so please bear with me. Yesterday I followed the link to the First Save website as I was interested in one of their fixed rate bonds. The 2-year bond still shows up on MSE as a "best rate". The website showed that the 1 year bond had been withdrawn but the links to others (including the 2 year…

I'd been looking at a 1 year bond offered by firstsave dot co dot uk - and listed on this site - a week or so ago but it's now shown as 'currently unavailable' at firstsave dot co dot uk/accounts Is this in anticipation…

Dipping my toe into corporate bonds - Advice requested
I'm running out of places to generate a decent return on my savings, and the outlook for me managing to divest some of it by moving up the property ladder is receding. I am therefore thinking it's time to look at using my S&S ISA allowance. There is a retail bond that has caught my eye. It is the Alpha Plus 7 year 5.75%…

Work share options -> ISA?
Hi My work share options are about to mature. The options were purchased at £4.20 and are now worth over £9 per share. I have accumulated over 1700 shares which means if I exercise my option, I should receive over £15,000 for my £7,000 investment. (very nice, thank you!) The question is (and hope it's not a stupid…

Dual Priced Funds Question
Hello, I am looking at some dual priced funds on Hargreaves. If a fund is dual price, but has no initial charge, will the buying/selling price be the same thing? Or will there still be a difference between the bid and the ask? Thanks

Saving larger amounts (£4k) per month...what's the best thing to do with these saving
Hi I am new to this forum and am looking for some advice about savings. I am able to save about £4k each month but I am not quite sure how to best invest this money each month. Where to put £70k for 6 months!
We've just inherited a reasonable sum of money, we've paid off our interest bearing debts. Next year we are planning some building work that will cost between £50k - £60k. We won't need the money for 6 months or so, but I simply don't know what the best option would be to keep it. Any ideas would be very helpful! thank you!

Confused!! Starting to save, but no idea how!
Hi After reading every article on this website with regards to savings, I still have no clue what to do! Here's my situation. My father-in-law, being the kind man he is, gave us a loan to buy a house, he paid the whole thing off in cash (by giving the money to my husband and the house now belongs to us). He said that we…

Best place to hold existing portfolio
I hope this specific question hasn't already been discussed elsewhere on here. Anyway, I have a lifetime accumulation of various unit trusts and such funds currently held with Brewin Dolphin. I'm ambivilent about Brewin's 'value added' (and in their defence, markets haven't been an easy ride in the last few years).…
