Sharesave n00b
Afternoon, Last year my employer started a sharesave scheme, I left it because I don't fully understand it and didn't think (at the time) it was good value. It's now opened again and this time around I'm considering it however I need to get some things straight in my head first as I've never dealt with shares. The deal: I…

Best place for £40K
Hi I have £40K that i need to do something with. I already have done my ISA alllowance for the year so that one is out. I don't really need access to it for a yr, but don't want to lock it away for longer just in case. I can't put it into my mortgage without paying a fee so that option is out until the end of the year when…

Best Savings Plan for Child's Future
I hope someone can help us! Have had a look on the net and are not any further forward! We have a 10 year old daughter and have no savings in place for her future. We've always intended to get started but through redundancy and struggling with day to day living expenses when she was younger we just put it off. This period…

A good word at last...for IFAs
I have had 3 meetings with an IFA about my pension. The first to decide on my risk etc. The second he came back with alternatives to consider after advice on each. The third to discuss my decision. I have decided to keep it where it is. All this and no charge. F4

Any reason to use H-L for ISA over Interactive Investor?
fairly urgent request as have to decide today! Last year opened first stocks and shares ISA with HL and put a new bond in it. Invested £5600 and this costs me £28 in admin fees Would have liked to keep ISAs all together but I now use iii for share investing and have realised that it will cost me £10 for the bond I want to…

Possible lost investment...
I wonder if someone could advise me on a situation re old investments. I had numerous investments with Scottish Widows which I closed down about 5 yrs ago due to poor performance. I seemed to have lost about £13,000 which apparently was due to the risk involved. However, i've continued to be payed interest from S.W into a…

Santander Online Banking - Interest Rates?
I've just set up a new account with Santander, and have registered for online banking. Is there a way to check the interest rate being applied to the account? I want to double check that it's correct, as the account name is simply "Cash ISA" rather than a specific name (i.e. "Direct ISA").

Residential property hedging inside a pension?
Hi all, I have two problems and was hoping to be able to combine them to make a positive... Problem 1 is that virtually all of my investments are tied up in residential property, not only that but in a mortgage so approximately 3x geared to property prices. Problem 2 is that I have a small amount of money locked away…

Nationwide Flexclusive ISA rate falls already!
MSE was showing Nationwide's Flexclusive ISA as a best buy ISA last week with a 4.25% rate (includinging a 1.5% bonus) so I opened one in branch on Saturday. There were posters in branch advertising the 4.25% rate. I've checked my interest rate on line today and it's now 3.5% (including a 1.5% bonus). The MSE page now…

Trying to work out the correct interest.
Hi, If an ISA was kept open for 10 months at a rate of 1% and had 14600 in it the whole time, would you expect to get £146 for 12 months, and £146 - (14.60*2) for 10 months? Or does the interest work a bit differently to that if you take your money out 2 months earlier. It's not a fixed term account. Thanks

Halifax ISA Investor - Help with withdrawal.
Hi all, When I was 18 (and naive) I opened an ISA. 5 years on and I had a decent amount (around £7k) saved up. As I was (and am) in my final year of University and money was tight I decided I needed to access some of the funds. So I withdrew £650 from the ISA account. Since then I've received a regulation statement…

Bank unwrapped some of my ISA by mistake
I transferred 5340 pounds into my ISA towards the end of the last tax year. I did the HMRC declaration over the phone, but the guy at the bank forgot to tick the box to say it had been done (they have admitted it was their mistake). This triggered the removal of the money from my account after 30 days, which last week…

Question about nominated account
After seeing the watchdog piece on savings and receiving a letter telling me my bonus was ending I have decided to switch to a new savings account. At the moment I'm looking at either the Sainsbury's e-Saver or Coventry BS Online Saver accounts (trying to determine whether I'll need to withdraw more than 4 times in the…

Savings for newborn
Hi, Just considering options for savings for a newborn(!) We intended to open a junior ISA but not sure we like the idea of tying all the money up for 18 years. Other 'child' accounts appear not to provide a good return. We intended to pay the child maintenance into the savings account so I suppose this amounts to approx a…

Savings for a group of people
Hi All We have a group of people who want to club together to buy a piece of land. We want to set up an account that we can all pay into but the money is safe from any one or even a small group taking the money out. We are going round in circles trying to come up with the right way to go about this. I think we need to…

Is it worth it to buy ITs for £50 pm? (Long-term investment)
I don't know much about ITs as may be obvious from the below! I have always understood that, in general terms, ITs are better than funds for people making significant investments, as the dealing charges are proportionally quite high for smaller amounts but if you can afford to invest more, the lower annual charges mean you…

short-term investment advice please
Hi all, I have been given £5,000. I need to part with this money in September 2012. However I was wondering what would be the best way to invest this money over the next four months to receive the best return. It needs to be risk-free. Would I be best just leaving it in my savings account? Thank you.

cahoot
Anyone had any problems with Cahoot? Just about to open a 1 year fixed account with someone and the best deals are Cahoot and Tesco. Are Cahoot as bad as their parent company, santander? Sant have recently messed up an ISA transfer so i'd rather not use them again, but if Cahoot are better then I may consider it.
