Saving newbie
Hey, I'm looking to open a saving's account, or something similar (if there are other things), and I have absolutely no idea about saving accounts, banks or interest rates, so I'm hoping someone can give me some good advice :) . I earn at least £1000 a month (sometimes going up to £1300, depending on the shifts I get that…

any platform better for investment trusts?
If I've chosen a few ITs I like, is there anything to decide between platforms? I believe that ITs have no renewal commission and presume that no platform can avoid stamp duty. So is it simply a matter of dealing charges and customer service? And annual fee if I want to ISA-wrap, which I can't at the moment.

Buying Gold
Any thoughts on whether its too late to get into gold now the price is so high? I've seen fairly credible articles about gold potentially heading over $2,000 / oz over the next year but looking at charts like on thegoldbullion.co.uk/gold-price-chart on the 7 day chart I see the price dropped 10% in two days!

Ing Isa Transfer Problem
Hi - I'm a newbie! I'm having great difficulty transferring an old Isa from Ing to a Halifax Isa a/c. Halifax told me to set up a money transfer but Ing will only allow you to transfer to a current account - presumably, if I transfer to a current account then I will lose the tax free status? How on earth do you do it?

put shares into ISA?
I have shares in RBS and Santander. Would it be advisable to put these into an ISA wrapper or just kept as 'paper'? Would it make any difference at all? I haven't used my ISA allowance yet for this year.

Gold price to go steady, dips imminent?
I've been fairly consistent in predicting when dips in price of gold are imminent, up to now. Maybe this is when I get my judgement call badly wrong. If so, then start preparing the humble pie. The points in favour of rises are same as they ever were, printy printy, coming home to roost. The ever increasing money supply…

Strange letter from HSBC
Just had a letter from HSBC which seems a bit odd. It's headed "Your Statement" then has our names and address, sort code and account number. It says there's a leaflet enclosed for our information, any questions contact our branch. The leaflet's headed "Boiler Room Scams" and basically warns against them, (they promise…

Options with £10k savings
I am currently a 4th year university student with ~£12k savings. Until now I have been keeping all my savings in an instant access savings account (~3%) followed by feeding it into a number of regular saver accounts (~4%). I have recently learned of stoozing, but feel it unlikely that I will be able to get a credit card…

How do I sell?
Hi there. I wish to do a one off deal and sell my last share holding. I have a share certificate for 150 shares. Value in the region £100. What is the cheapest and easiest way of doing this. As I will not have any further use for it, opening a online account seems hardly worthwhile. However if I go down the High Street…

Are financial advisors/fund managers harming your returns?
A piece wrote by Warren Buffet on the matter: How to Minimize Investment Returns It’s been an easy matter for Berkshire and other owners of American equities to prosper over the years. Between December 31, 1899 and December 31, 1999, to give a really long-term example, the Dow rose from 66 to 11,497. (Guess what annual…

I have retained a current account with Santander as well as a linked savings account which pays 1% interest for amounts over £50,000. I…
