I had a savings account with them a few years' ago, and found then to be very efficient.
  • I recently had an insurance renewal and found myself wanting to 'park' £50K for the balance of the year. I have a 3.15% 6-months notice account with Close Brothers, and so considered that. But then discovered I could get 3.35% for a 6 months fix, and so I threw it in.

There is no Internet lookup - but that's hardly necessary for such an account. Set up was a doddle. Confirmation letter gave details of the account, which I fed by a simple BACS transfer on Interenet Banking. Confirmation of deposit letter received.

They promise to contact me a month before 'maturity' to discuss what to do with the funds.

Loughton Monkey - How long did it take for your welcome letter to come through with account details from initial application?

Wow, things progressed pretty quick for you back then!

Applied late Friday afternoon; received email confirmation of account successfully opened on the following Monday. Three days later, still no letter regarding account to pay into.

No phone call for me, but I must say you were brave to send that amount on verbally quoted account details.

I was anxious to get it 'working' and 'in' before the weekend.

But I did take precautions. 1. I wrote the details down very carefully, and repeated them to the guy. 2. I checked the sort code on line to make sure it was WL. 3. I also phoned back and asked someone else there to confirm.

I recently opened a Coventry 'Poppy' account online. The Sort Code and Account Number were given online. But I sent a 'test' £10 first and checked it didn't 'bounce back' before I sent a more substantial figure. You can't do this with WL, because it's a fixed bond.
  • To those who've applied for Whiteaway's 1 year fixed term, did your letter confirming receipt of funds state rate or account type?
