Contributing to company pension or savings account?
Hi guys, I've been automatically enrolled into my employer's DC scheme and have noticed that they have made monthly contributions to it. I'm thinking of making my own contributions to this but not sure if I'm better off putting this monthly amount into a savings account? I mean, what is the benefit of a pension? Am I…

Does anyone actually keep their money at home under the mattress?
Hello everyone, sorry if this has been asked before but I have noticed that when you talk to older people? lots of them seem to tell you they keep their money at home and that they don't trust banks at all. Is it commonplace to keep money at home? I wouldn't think that was a very safe thing to do and I'd hate to think of…

Best corporate share dealing account for a few £5000 trades a month (incl. funds)
Share dealing account wanted for company to invest in both funds and individual shares. Average trade value £5000 I guess. A few trades a month. Possibly some margin trading, potentially using current investments as collateral, but that would not be a deal breaker.

I'm looking for a ballpark number, what's an average typical cost - if such a thing exists - that I might expect to be charged from an IFA for setting up a discretionary trust linked to an investment bond?

What to do with £1000? I want to save/invest it...
Hi there, I've recently won some money gambling, and just above £3,000 in my current account now. I know for many people that won't be much money, but I'm quite happy because I'm able to splash out a bit over summer and my second year at uni, and also cover accommodation costs in London without having to do any additional…

is HL SIPP the best around?
I have held an HL SIPP for a few years now. Most investments are funds/OEICS. However, i wish to branch out and consider some holdings in investments trusts, plus allow my company/employer to make a contribution on top of my personal payments. Except dealing charges for trusts are high in my opinion with HL. I read…

Performance fees
Apologies if this is a silly question, but maths is not my strongpoint. Is it possible to calculate how much a fund would have charged in performance fees over the past 12 months, as I imagine these are not included in the TER? I understand of course that by their very nature these fees are variable, but I am really trying…

My Savings Log
Inspired by one savings log on here I decided to create a log of my own to keep track of my savings over the years. Having paid off all my credit cards last year, I started a Cash ISA this tax year, it's the first ISA I have which I don't plan to touch and just keep adding to it. So far I have managed to save £2,500 of my…

SIP Deductions
Is there a HMRC rule that states the maximum that can be deducted under a SIP is £125 per month. If payroll get it wrong and miss a subscription one month, can they take 2 out the next month. Payroll have told me that it is a Revenue restriction and they cannot take the two payments this month. I've been looking and the…

Post Office savings account
I currently have my savings in a HSBC online saver but the interest rate is a disgusting 0.25% if I make a withdrawal (which I do). I'm currently making about 80p-90p a month on savings between 5-6k. So I did a bit of looking around and found the Post Office savings account with 2.97% gross for the first 12 months.…
