best rate accounts

Hi All,

I am looking to open 2 savings accounts both for children.

1 to have deposited £1900

1 to have Deposited £200

accounts to last only 1 year approx

I intend to open these accounts with the above balances but NOT make any monthly savings deposits or withdrawls.

Any suggestions

Little Rock account from Northern Rock pays 3% with easy access.

You might get slightly more from Halifax Guaranteed Reserve for the bigger sum - the rate was 3.15% for a year (fixed) with no access.

Offers 4.6% for 1 year, but has max of £1200. Would cover both for 1 account per child if you could split the £1900 and include the additional 700 with the 200.

I am not sure why you would do this? Why not put £2100 in one account and split it after a year? What are you aiming for? Would the accounts be in their names? Are you looking for tax-relief? How old are the children?

Note this is a regular saver account. You can only pay in a maximum amountof £100 per month.
