Need to open a Savings Account for my Mum
Hello all, I need some advice on the best way to do this. My elderly mother wants to open her first account and put away roughly £1000. The problem is that she doesn't have internet access and does't really want to do much other than put the money away and forget about it. I happy to set it up and manage it, but is this…

Any low risk ways to beat savings interest?
Any suggestions and what kind of return I would get? I looked at a FTSE 100 tracker but it wouldn't have done very well over a 5 or 10 year period.

Am I aiding/abetting fraud-ISA?
A friend of mine emigrated to Thailand several years ago, she does not plan to return to UK. Just before Christmas she asked if she could use my address for correspondance for her UK bank account (which her state pension is paid into) as they wouldn't allow her to keep her UK bank account open without a UK address to send…

Tax on Joint Savings
I have a joint savings account with my husband. I am now a higher rate tax payer, but he is not. If we keep the account in our joint names, will we have to pay the higher rate tax on all the savings? If so, would it be better to transfer it into just my husband's name? Would I still be able to access it if this is the case…

RPI Uncompounded Interest over 5 Years
I've seen a couple of accounts giving interest based on RPI change over 5 years, but there seem to be unrealistic quotes of 20% or 30% change in that time. The ONS web site publishes an RPI CSV file, and if you look at the 5 year rolling change in RPI, this did rise to about 30% around 1991, but since then has been nearer…

New allowance for last year's ISA
I opened a Halifax ISA last Autumn, and put the max in. On the 5th April I got some interest credited and it now says that I can put a further ~£5k in. What happens if I close annual interest savings mid-year?
If I have a variable rate savings account with no penalties for withdrawal etc, what happens if I close the account mid-year? Will they pay me all the accrued interest I would have got at the end of the year, or do I have to leave the account open until the annual interest date in order to get that little extra bit of…

Santander Warning
If anyone has Santander accounts you need to be aware of this. I only have a FISA not a current account or e-savings so it didn't affect me much. I've just taken out a new e-saver with Santander. This DISABLED my online access. When I phoned Santander to find out why my password no longer worked I was told that whenever a…
