Santander Warning

If anyone has Santander accounts you need to be aware of this. I only have a FISA not a current account or e-savings so it didn't affect me much.
I've just taken out a new e-saver with Santander. This DISABLED my online access. When I phoned Santander to find out why my password no longer worked I was told that whenever a new e-saver etc. is taken out this resets the password and they send you new ones through the post. So lucky that I didn't have a everyday account with Santander that I need access to isn't! I'd be right stuck if I found I suddenly had to wait a week for money that I expected to be instant access.

Dont really understand this as I have added three new accounts - including most recently an esave account - to my Santander 'portfolio' and have never had problems with my online access being reset ....... had numerous other problems with them though!0

Same here, looks like they are feeding porkies'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
I haven't had The Reset either, but opening a new online saver and transferring the old one over has lost the link to my (non-Santander) current account - apparently I have to phone for a form, then wait...
Fortunately transferred most of the cash from the old account away from Santander, so will probably end up just closing the new one - they do seem more than a bit rubbish compared to the rest.0 -
I have also added several accounts including an eSaver and Flexible ISA and nither have reset my password or restricted my online access.
Is it just another case of Santander bashing?0 -
this is a load of crap that you were told it doesnt reset at all.0

Never happened to me either.

Even if your password is disabled and you aren't able to access your online account this doesn't actually disable your actual account. You can still use your debit card to pay for purchases and direct debits are still active. Soooo ... not actually sure what the OP means about waiting a week for money.
Actually ... waiting a week for money in a Santander account is standard practice and has nothing to do with whether your online account is locked out!0 -

The more I read about Santander and it's products the more I get the impression that the staff are poorly trained and use any excuse to to make them sound knowledgeable. As to "Santander bashing", the stories I have read on here certainly put me off!0 -
I think there is a problem on their website TODAY, even if, as other posters have said, it usually allows you to set up new accounts without resetting passwords.
I tried twice this morning to open an e-saver account with Santander and each time after the second screen it fell over saying 'technical problems'.
Think they may have disabled this account-opening option, following the sort of problems described by OP.
I AM a Santander current account holder and would have been horrified if I'd lost access to my current account today!
Thanks for the heads up on this! Will leave it a few days to make sure it's sorted out!0 -
Leave them as quick as you can. They are a nightmare!0
