Santander Warning

  • I think there is a problem on their website TODAY, even if, as other posters have said, it usually allows you to set up new accounts without resetting passwords.

I tried twice this morning to open an e-saver account with Santander and each time after the second screen it fell over saying 'technical problems'.

Think they may have disabled this account-opening option, following the sort of problems described by OP.

I AM a Santander current account holder and would have been horrified if I'd lost access to my current account today!

Thanks for the heads up on this! Will leave it a few days to make sure it's sorted out!

    Ah....now this is interesting.
I've had had this and I'd be interested to see whether yours resolves itself:...my version of the problem has not.
I've put in a complaint to A&L...I'll get some bllcks back and then have to complain about the way my complaint is being handled......

I was applying from within my online accounts with A&L about 2 weeks ago. Ive not heard of anyone else with the problem on this site.
I was wondering whether the fact I also have an old account with Abbey/santander is causing a mismatch between data held on me on the computer systems.

I know for online ISA applications, your asked to link to an existing 'cash card' if you want to and enter an ISA account number which I presume helps to identify existing customers.
I also have 2 Santander login ID's (no, one of them is not A&L), neither of which have been disabled after the other was issued. Despite having 2 passwords per login and an OTP to move money, it's incredibly easy for Santander to block payments and disable online access.

I've just taken out a new e-saver with Santander. This DISABLED my online access. When I phoned Santander to find out why my password no longer worked I was told that whenever a new e-saver etc. is taken out this resets the password and they send you new ones through the post..

    Simply not true.

I had online access originally for an ISA. I added 3 new accounts on seperate occasions after that. Every time, it just adds them to the existing sign-on.

Others seem to think the OP is telling porkies, but the same has happened to me.

I opened an eSaver account, which was successful, and selected the option to transfer an opening balance from an existing account.

Now, I too can't log-in. I'm repeatedly told that my Personal I.D., Passcode and/or Registration No. are wrong, despite typing everything diligently, even with a single finger and watching to see if the button press has been registered.

Something smells fishy. The fact that repeated incorrect attempts at logging in haven't resulted in any warning that my access has been restricted and needs to be reset - as the statement, after the initial failed log-in, warns - suggests they want to hold on to my money for a little longer. The initial warning is repeated, each time. Also, the money is not an insubstantial amount.

I know it sounds conspiratorial, but Santander, like the Spanish economy, appears to be in serious trouble, so it could be true and isn't as daft as it sounds. Or, they could have suffered an I.T. failure (that hasn't been rectified in days!), which has adversely affected random account holders.

I suggest, malc_b, that you write, not phone, to complain, if you're still locked-out, like me.

    Write to:
    Complaints,
    Santander U.K. PLC,
    P.O. Box 1125,
    Bradford,
    BD1 9PG.

No I don't believe the OP is telling porkies, simply that Santander possibly are. Not a worry for me though, all monies safely moved out of Santander despite their best attempts to delay the transfers.

I always wanted a bank that I could trust and had hoped never to switch, but the industry does not reward loyalty.

    Regards,
    Mickey

I'm the OP and I just recounted what I was told. I phoned to see why I could log in and that was the excuse.

I've just had my eSaver email and that says:

    Logging on to your account
Your eBanking registration details should arrive in the post within 10 – 14 days and to log onto your account for the first time follow the steps outlined.

Those for which online banking didn't reset did your email still say this? Is this a recent thing?

Same here. I agree their customer service over the phone is sometimes suck. But I have seen, there are a lot of improvement since recently .....

I opened mine just after issue 3 launched and my email said exactly the same thing. I waited 14 days but no eBanking details arrived (I already had an A&L login where I could see the eSaver but could not make withdrawals). So I phoned up and they agreed that they hadn't sent any eBanking details but they would order some for me, it will take 10-14 days etc.

I have an e-mortgage, ISA, Bond, kids accounts and an E-saver with them and have never, ever been locked out when I've added an account.

I would never get a current account with them (given the horror stories I've heard, plus I love FD simply because you speak to a person first time and not a computer), but I have to say that I have never had any problems with Santander, either. Mind you, I do everything pretty much online. :)

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
