How do you become a big time IFA in your own spare room ?
The idea of managing mine and my parents Share ISA with the same investment strategy (equities, iShares, units funds) and any money we invest over our ISA limit (which will be subject to CGT) at the same time to reduce effort and possibly dealing charges is appealing. Progressing from this, I would like to do the same in…

DYOR/300 oil men fly out to Falkland Islands from Gatwick
Hi, I am new to investing and have been attracted (like many) to higher risk AIM shares in oil and mining. Using the internet I have done a little research into the stocks that I hold. So far I have been lucky and stumbled across some good performers. Of course everyone quotes DYOR, but what do you do to try and ensure…

Sainsburys Online Saver increases to 2.85%
Sainsburys have increased the rate on their Online Saver from 2.7% to 2.85%. They've pulled the usual trick, that providers love to do these days, by only offering it to newly opened accounts. No doubt hoping current mugs (customers) don't notice .... However it's easy enough to open a new account with the higher interest…

Success of your S&S ISA?
Hi Everyone, First of all - apologies if this is in the wrong section, I know there are certain people on this forum who are a stickler for rules and if this in the wrong place - mods feel free to move it. Now, I currently have a Cash ISA, not particularly amazing interest given the current inflation rate. I am tempted to…

Missing payments on regular monthly ISA
I hope that title made sense, I wish to start a monthly ISA with h&l. Now would it be possible to pay £50 per month but then stop paying at the third month or so and just let that paltry amount grow. Or is it a condition that I need to keep making monthly £50 payments?

Confused about ISA
Hi, I have an ISA with Standard life that I've been putting money into for over a year. I was looking to switch to one with a higher rate of interest within the next week or so. Stupidly I forgot to switch off the automatic payments from my current account and it paid in £100 today. Does this mean that I can't switch to…

ISA Transfers
I've got to old Barclays Isa's. To my surprise/horror, one is only paying 0.83% interest. The other is paying 2.2% interest. What kind of rates would I get if I transfer? I havn't been able to find a table showing banks allowing transfers and their rates. I understand the rates won't be the same as opening up a new Isa.…

Joint Savings Accounts - is such a thing possible?
Have set up my daughter's CTF and will be saving regularly into it to give her a lump sum when she turns 18. However, both me and my girlfriend don't want to dump all our savings for her in a CTF as there's no control over how the money's used - if she wants to throw it all away then there's nothing we can do to stop her.…

What to do with £20k?
Hi All, I'm being made redundant at the end of July (voluntary) and receiving a year's salary which is roughly £20k. I plan to put the maximum I can into an ISA but I'm not sure what to do with the rest. I don't have another job to go to yet, so I will be using some of the money to live on, I'm also buying a car (for about…

Shares/Securities Lending
Do brokers in the UK engage in the lending of shares/securities in a customer's account (i.e. to short sellers)? Does this apply to all account types or only margin accounts? Are shares in an ISA lent out? Is there a way to prevent your broker from lending out your shares? Please post links/references to replies. Thanks.

Transfer from € bank account to UK bank account
Hello, I am not sure if I'm posting in the right forum, but I hope someone is able to help. I am planning to transfer a large sum (€200 000) from a German bank account into my UK bank account. I phoned several banks and they all gave me different quotes for today's rate. The quotes differed between £172000 - £ 182000!!!! I…

Hello, I currently bank with santander. I have a bank account and a worthless 'easy isa'. In my ISA I have just over 11.5k saved which managed to make me £8 richer last year, just having a look through these forums people dont seem to recommend Santander? I thought they were a reputable bank? One thing though is as I live…
