Hi All, I got a phone call today by a sales representative from Barc Bank. I know I have no obligation to speak to these people, but would be nice to have some sort of answers to this sort of stuff. I realize Banks are a horrible place to invest money, Here is list of answers the guy gave me. Is he lying? 1/ Banks products…

Diversification and correlated markets
Hi I'm a newbie investor. 70% of my investments are in cash or equivalents right now. The other 30% is in equity via funds. I'm aiming to eventually have a 30/70 cash-to-equity split. As all the good advice goes, I'm trying to get my 'asset allocation right' whilst keeping my charges at a minimum. My 30% is currently made…

Money circuits to satisfy high interest rates?
Bank accounts often offer a high interest rate under the condition that £1000-£1500 is paid into the account each month. Is it possible to, for example, link three of these type accounts with direct debits. Each DD transferring the appropriate monthly-input-amount to one after the other on consecutive weeks. Then you can…

Hi, I'm new to investments and having done my research I am looking at investing in Apple. I just want to invest £500 over a year or so. Anyone know where to sell 22 carat Indian jewellery?!
I wasn't sure where to post this one, basically when I was young and care free I listened to my Uncle and bought a little bit of gold as an investment (probably about £3,300 worth based on the insurance replacement value). I am now older and skint. I have worked out I'd get about £900 for scrap, but does anyone know if…

Child's Savings
Hello My son has £ 2,000 saved in his Brittania account, which is paying very poor interest. £ 60.00 is being paid into it each month. Where would be the best place to invest this, to gain a better return? He does not intend to touch it for about 5 years. But might change his mind within that time. Thank You

I have found some GKN share certificates 'drip' issue mostly for 1 or 2 shares each, but some for 30 or 20 . How do I find out if these are still ours (husband and I) and whether they are worth anything? We only have 108 total.

Basic Rate Tax Payer and Share Dividends?
Hi, I correct in thinking that there is no tax to be paid on Share dividends by a basic rate tax payer. Only CGT? Apart from CGT there's no real advantage of having equities in a ISA, as long as you remain a basic rate tax payer.

At what point/date does the taxman pull my trousers down?
If we exceed our CGT limit, at what point do we tell the taxman, or does he ask for the money? I automatically tip into 40% tax bracket so thats taken care of automatically on my payslips, but how does he find out about CGT or extra earnings? Serious question by the way as never made any CG before?

Multi-manager funds?
Hi all! Was wondering whether anyone utilises their S&S ISA with a multi-manager fund for example a Hargreaves Lansdown multi-manager fund (http://www.h-l.co.uk/funds/multi-manager-funds). Currently holding an S&S ISA with Halifax but believe performance wise it can do better. A multi-manager fund seems to suit as I do not…

Scottish Friendly Bond
Hi. I've got a Scottish Friendly 10 year bond that is due to mature next year. The surrender value at the moment is just over £3000 and the sum assured is £2800. By cashing in now I'll lose any further bonuses and potentially a terminal bonus. I could do with the money now. Am I likely to make much more on it over the next…
