Saving Account - Over 60's

Please help..
I am trying to find a 'Simple' saving account for my elderly mother that she can access from either a branch or post office.
Without withdrawal penalties and ideally a pass book.
All the rates seem to be very low unless it's an online account?

What banks or building societies can she easily get to?
Also, who does she currently bank with as they may have something suitable.

When Nationwide so arrogantly closed our much used village office we opened a Post office Instant Saver account. Currently the interest rate is 2.10%, but this includes a bonus for first 12 months.

It's handy for paying in cheques and cash, but she would have to use a card to withdraw cash. She could do this at the post office counter, and they would probably advise how to use.

It seems a pass book and good interest rates don't go hand in hand. I remember the 'heady days' of our Nationwide Over 60s passbook account, receiving around 6.5% interest!
