Halifax ISA transfer
Hi I have a Direct ISA with NS&I, however the interest rate is pretty abysmal and I no longer what to put up with it. I am interested in the Halifax fixed rate ISA saver at 3% but I am unsure of how to go about opening it. I would like to transfer in my existing Direct ISA balance and add this years allowance too. Do I…

DSGi Rights Issue
Evening all, I know that people can't give investment advice on here, however I'd still appreciate your thoughts on this. I am, for my sins, a DSG shareholder. I bought £200 worth of shares as a bit of a gamble when they were trading at 11p per share, so obviously am really happy that I've made a nice profit on it - but…

Guaranteed savings
I understand that i would have protection for the first £50000 of savings with a uk financial institution, if that institution were to get into difficulties. I have joint power of attorney for my mothers financial affairs, and as such, i am named in the title of her bank accounts, though the money is hers. If I open a…

Money left in will for daughter to invest - where?
Hi, Our 5 year old daughter was left a small amount of money in her Grandmother's will (£2000), this has now finished all the probate etc. and the solicitors are asking us where we'd like to invest this until she's 18. Obviously £2k is not a huge amount of money but for 12-13 years I'd like to think I put it somewhere…

More Nationwide frustration
I hold an account in trust for my godson, not a huge sum. It was initially opened with Lambeth, who were taken over by Portman, who then 'merged' (ha ha) with Nationwide. It took Nationwide 18 months to migrate the account from Portman; the Smart Account now pays a pitiful 0.75% so I decided to transfer it to a 5yr fixed…

Buying Shares & WorldPay
I tried to use this for the first time today using my bank debit card details as requested by the broker but the screen indicated that the transaction had not been accepted by my bank. Have I missed something here? If you are a share buyer was your first transaction straightforward using this method?

HSBC fixed rate cash ISA transfer
Just in case it is of any use to anyone with a poor performing HSBC cash ISA. I have successfully had HSBC transfer my cash ISA at 0.45% to their fixed rate cash ISA at 3.1%. I appreciate it is a fixed rate for 1 year whilst others are not, but it is still a high rate and given that I suspect most don't intend taking funds…

Halifax web saver reward - check your rates
For accounts opened between 05/11/08 and 01/12/08 - there are tiered interest rates depending on the balance. Just a warning - I transferred some funds into my Halifax web saver reward account which took the balance to the next tier for higher rates (5% to 5.2%.) The on-line rate displayed remained at 5% so phoned Halifax.…

Rolls Royce capitalisation issue
We have some RR shares and received a letter today about them undertaking a capitalisation issue. 85.8 shares for each RR ordinary share held. So, if we have 1007 shares, what does this mean? Are we getting a bonus amount of shares that we can sell if we like?

Any web links to the best savings performers for past year
I am not trying to say 'where is best' as this changes from time to time but what would be of interest to me is any information on the individual performace of the various savings providers. I have a number of accounts spread around and not touched my money in any for the past year and and am starting to think I had better…
