Borrowing to invest
Hi New poster here so any idea's would be appreciated. I am in the fortunate position of being mortgage free, although the account is still open, i can withdraw money at 0.5% above base rate, I was thinking of doing this and investing in a fixed rate bond over two years, it seems simple as i can well afford the repayments,…

9k to invest - totally baffled!
Hey people, Ive got 9k to invest and im really confused on what would be the best thing to do with it! I haven't used any ISA allowance this year, so was going to go with £3600 in one of the 3.5% mini cash isa's this week, and when it turns April, put another £3600 in the best deal. That would leave £1800 to put…

HSBC - Mortgage Offset Savings - How Safe?
Hello All I thought I had a reasonably prudent (if conservative and unexciting) savings strategy with First Direct / HSBC, given their previously pretty good liquidity and capitalisation. But with Friday's share issue news, and yesterday's knee-jerk of the markets, I just don't know what to do for the best. Here's my…

Does STAN look like a good buy?
Yesterday i asked about HSBC, today i'm asking about Standard Chartered...the reason is i think both banks will benefit from Asian recovery as they have strong presence. The Asians are dependent on some US exports, but are not exposed directly to US sub-prime scam.…

Best place to put some money...
My partner and I have some money (circa £7000) that we'd like to put into savings for the time being - essentially it won't be used, but we may need access to it in an emergency. We will also have about £20,000 to save in the next 2-3 months, once our house sale completes. I thought about splitting the £7k between our ISA…

Kaupthing Edge/ing Accounts Witheld Interest
Has anybody else had our problem? We closed our KAUPTHING EDGE account and withdrew the money before the bank crashed. We have just been notified by ING who 'opened an account for us without authorisation or permission' that we have interest from KAUPTHING. RBS Collective Investment Funds Ltd
I am at present putting £50 per month into the above and to date I have lost over £1200 (I've invested around £4000 in total). I haven't checked what my cash in value is today though; too afraid to call. Shall I keep up with the monthly payments or just stop altogether? On the other hand I have also received a £2000+…

Good grief!
