Someone please check my logic
I've just received £20,000 from my parents. My overall plan is to start looking for a property and probably get a mortgage in about 6-12 months. I currently have £12,000 in a LloydsTSB ISA which has a one year guaranteed rate of 6.5% which matures on 22 May. I hadn't made any contributions in the 2008/2009 tax year (was…

Why would I choose a company paying 2% when I could chose a company…

Problems with ING
Hello all, I ended up with an ING account after the collapse of KE. Most of my savings were transferred from KE to ING and appeared in my new ING account. All that is except £2228.88 which I transferred to KE on the 16th of January before ING started to administer the account. It's now the 14th of March and I have yet to…

Take it from the poor give it too the rich.
I have a car. It is 13 years old. After the budget it will be worth £2,000. Therefore I can't sell it for next to nothing to someone who is a bit hard up. Wot a Chiz. For cars over nine years old you get a certificate of destruction and £2,000 at a special centre and then use the voucher towards buying a new or one year…

New Savings Account
I have read Martin's section on savings, and it looks like that AA account is the right one for me. BUT, I have an issue with giving the AA my money! Am I being daft, or is this a usual concern for someone who has never had £1 to save let alone over £3,000.

In mid 2007 I changed bank account and the resulting confusion with direct…

NS&i Index Linked Certificates - Any Point?
I'm in the 'inflation' camp as far as what the future may hold but is there any point in going down the NS&i route? Surely interest rates with any institution will likely rise if inflation or, worse, hyperinflation kicks in? The question is whether they are likely to rise on a par with IL offered by NS&i? Given a choice,…
