Interest Rates - Dollar exchange Rates
Anyone have a realistic view on where sterling interest rates will go when the BoE meets on 8th Jan? I am interested to know if general opinion is that dealers will test $1.40 or even lower against the pound. Or do you think that lower interest rates have already been discounted at this time? thanking you in anticipation…

Accounts that give interest to charity
I notice that Yorkshire BS give the pence of interest on their savings account to charity unless you opt out. Are there any other accounts like that? Maybe some let you choose what charity the money goes to?

Advice please
Hi all, am new to this site but would like some advice. I've been given some money by my parents (I've recently moved out but OH's parents have also helped us out with some big purchases) so we don't need to buy anything with the cash immediately. I want to save this cash and be able to add to it every month, which kind of…

US withholding tax on share sale??
I've just sold some Dr Pepper shares (held as a result of Cadbury- Schweppes de-merger) and it's cost me an arm & a leg (relatively)! Having now received the sterling proceeds into my bank I find that the broker(Computershare) has taken 15% withholding tax. I challenged this (having already lodged a W-8BEN from the…

I'm going to try and see how much I can save towards a deposit in the new year, cutting back on spending... yada yada yada, but is anyone up for seeing how much they could save collectively? If so, how would we measure this, %…

NewcastleNet 7 or A&L Online Tracker
Thinking of opening one of these. Trying to pick the one that will offer the strongest rate over the next 12 months or so. A&L has the base rate guarantee, but in reality, should the Base rate drop again as I asume, are both accounts likely to fall to a similar level? if so I will opt for the Net 7 as it offers monthly…

Where to put £5K?
Hi, I have about £5k in a very low interest account and I want to move it. I don't think I can have an ISA as I have one already and I know I can add an amount to that (£3600 a year?). What suggestions as to where to put the £5k. I don't need instant access but would want access with notice, I want online manageability and…

Where do we start?
DH aged 49 is due to retire on 31st March with a generous payoff and immediate pension from his employer. DH is 40% tax payer and will still be 09/10 (as the payoff will be received in that tax year) though probably not after that. BTW I work too and pay tax at 20%. We intend to pay off what is left on our credit cards,…

Savings Rates & Moving Money
I’m getting pretty sick of running around trying to get a decent interest rate for my savings. The government are helping out banks and people who borrowed more money than they could afford but are doing nothing to help people to rely on savings income. Here’s my latest tale of woe… I received an email yesterday (29th…

How Do You Track Rates?
I have just opened an A&L Esaver2 account because their old Esaver account is now paying about 2% less. A&L didn't tell me about the interest rate changes and I was a bit miffed that I could get a higher rate by opening a new account. How do you keep track of your variable account interest rates? Surely you don't have to…

Did you apply for a Barclays Monthly Saver in December?
Updated 6 Jan 09 THE 7.75% DEAL IS NOW CLOSED. What this is all about? The Barclay's Monthly Saver had a fixed rate of 7.75% for ALL people whose first payment cleared in December 2008. Yet even though we'd had confirmation of this, as the rate changed on Barclay's website on 1 December to say 6%, there's been a lot of…
