Cat dry food dilemma - various ages cats
Ok... so... Teddy - 7 yo George - 3 yo Macius - 2 yo Fred - does not touch dry so ignored here Teddy should possibly eat 7+, Macius still looks like a kitten on his matchstick legs, George normal cat (only one at home) George not fussed about wet food, prefers dry. Macius and Teddy easy - will have dry or wet. Fred - never…

DAP diffusers - give me your experiences, good and bad
Temporary mutt is a mixture of zonked in bed (8pm-8am) and bouncing off the walls (8am-8pm). Or more accurately, the front window. She relaxes when in her crate in the dining room, but can't seem to switch off any other time. Some of it's anxiety and some of it's attention-seeking. I'm working on settle commands etc, but…

I hate my cat :(
This sounds really bad - but it's true. I've come to hate one particular cat of mine (I have 3). He's just over 1 - so I understand he is still young but he causes me nothing but stress. I just had to take my oldest female cat to the vets as yet again he attacked her and left big welts in her head  - literally…

Horse manure problems
Should horse riders be responsible for the manure there animals produce whilst riding around in residential streets in villages and towns? I live in the middle of a mid size village, and there is a constant, ever replenishing trail of between 10 and 15 piles of manure been left on my street, and also on the adjacent…

Cat has hurt paw....
So my cat was lying on the radiator, and she got her paw stuck down the side, I actually had to yank it out for her, she was squeling and scratched me to shreds but I managed to get it out, now she is limping, shes run up and down the stairs and jumped up onto the sofa, but she holds it in the air sometimes when sitting…

Neighbours barking dogs
Our neighbour has always had dogs, they were both quite old dogs and one by one died, the last one nearly 2 years ago. They never barked, ever and you wouldn't know they were there. When the last one went, our neighbour said they weren't getting another as they hadn't had a holiday in 20 years. 4 months later, October…

Help for my elderly sick cat
This may take a while to explain but I'm hoping someone has some advice for me. My 18 year old cat has been on medication for Hyperthyroidism for the last 3 years or so. The vet has always commented on how well he looks and how active he is for his age. 2 Weeks ago he changed drastically, lost a lot of weight and became…

Grrrr! Cat rescues!
So back story- I have two gorgeous cats, one 5 year old ginger male, one older calico lady. I figured we probably have room in our life for another. We live in a large 3 bed detached house, with very large front and rear gardens and plenty of animals for them to worry. Out of the cat flap is the garden of the local church…

Fish tank filters
The filter on my fish tank is on its way out, I'd estimate 3 months max. I'm starting to look for a new one but can't really afford to use my usual aquatics shop. Does anyone have any ideas of how to find a low priced filter thats still of a good quality? Or a website that does reliable reviews. It's been four years since…

RSPCA need foster homes for pets
I think this is a really good idea to help match owners to pets or just give the pet a break from kennels. The RSPCA pay for the pets food and vet fees so if you cannot take a pet permanently you still have the benefits of the company of one.

Your local authority and dogs
Just asking in general does your council have a positive approach to dog ownership? Talking to fellow dog owners it seems that councils can have very different approaches. Mine seem good enough, there are poo bins in all parks, most normal bins have the 'dog poo okay' sign, the libraries/town halls/council buildings give…

Pregnancy and after with cats
When expecting/babies around what should I be doing or not doing for my 3 cats? My mum (though not the biggest of animal lovers!) suggested I get rid of them though I wouldn't dare and I'm sure something can be worked out. Hoping maybe next couple years to start family once i've bought somewhere but am thinking what I…

My dog Lucy is 10. She weighs over 40kg, so a big girl...a golden retriever cross. Snake insurance.
I have 'inherited' a california king snake and am struggling to find insurance for him. I used to keep them when I was younger but never really got insurance then (bad I know). Does anyone know of any reputable companies that insure reptiles? He's fine atm but if something happens...

Outdoor Cat Litter Tray?
Hi, I was wondering if anyone on here leaves their cat's litter tray outside? I bought a covered outdoor one from Zooplus but I was wondering if it would attract insects if I left it outside. Does anyone here leave their trays outdoors? Thanks.:)

Dr Doolittle
Hello! I'm new to MSE so just sorta introducing myself on boards that are relevant to me. I have 28 animals, and i'm as thrifty as they come (although maybe not with the animals because they get spoilt rotten!) I'm known as a bit of a Dr Doolittle and my animals range from dogs to hamsters, to terrapins to spiders, to…

Dog barking a lot and getting his back up.
Some of you may remember my post about my dog showing aggression towards me a month or so ago. Well I'm pleased to say his attitude with me has changed, although there was a moment where he had a little snap at my husband yesterday. I have noticed one thing with him though since he was neutered, when he's out in the garden…
