Hi,
I was wondering if anyone on here leaves their cat's litter tray outside?
I bought a covered outdoor one from Zooplus but I was wondering if it would attract insects if I left it outside.
Does anyone here leave their trays outdoors?
Thanks.:)

You're still going to get flies round ****, that's natural.
The thing you have to do is ensure that rain can't get in through ghe vents at the top or through the front. So you really need to build them a little shelter, like a puddy privvy.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I have a covered shelter outside so rain isn't a problem but I was wondering if it would get really disgusting.
I suppose I will just have to give it a try. I might put in on a raised surface so slugs can't get in.0 -
I have the outdoor one from Zooplus and have never noticed any issues with insects.0

That's a brilliant solution if you have limited outdoor space and - and should stop your cat using neighbours' gardens. Should do a lot for neighbourly relations!0

You can buy copper tape which would keep slugs and snails out. I use it for my strawberry planters, I picked it up in the poundshop and it really does work.0 -
^ Thanks guys for your input!:T0

I used to have an outdoor tray when I had indoor-outdoor cats. I put it in the greenhouse, there was a pane missing at the base so the cats just went in that way. I scooped it every day, same as the indoor tray and changed it regularly as well. I never noticed any flies or smell. It stopped my cats using the veg beds as a toilet when outside and hopefully kept them off the neighbours' gardens as well. I didn't get any complaints about them from the neighbours anyway.Val.0

I just ordered some from Amazon. Thanks.:) I hadn't heard of it as I'm not much of a gardener.0 -
I'd think about the type of litter too. Some litters might be more likely to clump in more damp out side conditions and there fore be less absorbent of urine.0

Thanks.:) I thought as I bought an outdoor tray that it must be suitable for outdoors but I don't know anyone who uses one. Most people I know just let their cats out the catflap to toilet wherever they want.0
