LGPS 2014 Rules
Anyone know about the proposals for the 2014 LGPS? It appears that from 2014, employers consent is no longer required to leave and claim benefits from 55 years of age. Given that I have substantial service pre 2014 that will be frozen when the new rules are introduced, does that mean I can leave in 2015 when I am 55 and…

Moving pension funds with the same provider
Hello Folks I'm new to the pension section of the MSE website (I'm more of a shopper than a saver ;-) I have some modest GPP pension savings with Friends Life and am about 25 years from retirement. Currently my savings are invested in medium risk funds, 75% UK or EU based. As I am a fair way from retirement I'd like to…

Partial transfer from group pension possible?
I currently have around 100k in a defined contributions pension, though my employer's group pension plan with Aviva. I believe they are charging me about 0.7% per annum, which works out to around £700 per year. As my pension plan is invested in index tracker funds, this seems quite high. With a low cost SIPP, I could…

UK pension funds in historic move to safe havens
UK pension funds have reached a “watershed moment”, holding more bonds than equities for the first time since the 1950s. Fund managers have been gradually moving towards bonds since about 2002 in order to overcome stock market volatility but leading City fund managers say the so-called “cult of equity” is now dead. The…

How to buy an annuity
I think I already know the answer to this but: Can I only use savings in the form of a pension to buy an annuity? For example, instead of a pension, can I use my ISA savings to purchase an annuity? Does that work? If yes - how best to go about it, if no - why not? I have a very simple brain...so go easy on me!! With…

Previous employer is still paying me in my old pension scheme?
Hi all, I left my previous employer about 4 months ago, and in the pension scheme I had with them I can still see contributions coming in after I left. I wrote the HR manager (we're in good terms) about that a couple of months ago, she said that she would check that and get back to me - although she never did that. I sent…

state pension
I have checked on imformation about defering state pension, I am due to receive it at 62 but as I will continue to work full time tax wise it would seem better to not claim until I retire as my total income will be below the tax threshold. my question is will I still be entitled to the heating payment...providing its still…

Stupid question!
serious reasoning. My mum has a pot of cash... £250,000 Assuming all things being equal: Of she was to put £50,000 in Zopa earning 5% and £200,000 in two separate accounts earning say 3% and take out £1,000 per month in proportion to the investments across the board, how many years would she be able to take out before her…

Young & Dumb... Where do you go for advice on pensions?!
So I'm 23 and have been paying into a pension - a defined contribution scheme for 5 years now. I have just got used to the money being taken each month and haven't ever given it much thought as it's only a very small percentage I pay. I got a benefit statement through the other day. It's just complete jargon to me but a…

State pension reduced due to benefit received by spouse?
My husband has just applied for the state pension. One section of the form seemed to suggest that he may receive a reduced pension, due to the fact that I am in receipt of Incapacity Benefit. Is this correct? I thought that the amount of state pension paid was only affected by the number of full years achieved by the…
