Assessed Weekly Charge for Residential Care
I am hoping someone can help as I just want to be sure of the correct situation. Apologies for the long post. In brief I am a deputy (financial) appointed by the court of protection after a protracted family dispute. There was an enduring joint power in place that fell apart very quickly after it was set up. During this…

Phoenix former policy holders
Has anyone else had a letter from Phoenix asking former policy holders from Phoenix/Sun Alliance to confirm details of their policy, provide personal information etc? They say they have important information to give us. Obviously we want to avoid falling for a scam, but we did have an endowment with them which we cashed in…

Change address, is a new will required?
Recently had my will returned by solicitor who has retired and now plan to lodge it with the Probate Office. However as it has my present address on and I hope to move sometime soon do I need to make a new will, make a codicil or is it OK as it is? Tried google but could not find the answer. Probably somebody here has…

Over the hill?
Looking at the Silver forum it seems as if we're all in God's waiting room! :( What action have you taken recently to prove to yourself that you're not over the hill? I had a brilliant water pistol fight with 2 of my grandchildren yesterday. Tearing round the garden, squirting and being squirted back made me feel 10 again.…

There is another, more appropriate, board for this query. Try there you will probably get a lot of ideas.

What did you do with your deeds?
I have been in possession of the deeds to my house now for over 20 years, and have kept them upstairs in a file cabinet. However, with all that's going on in the country, I feel some people are going to get more desperate in their search for money. So today I went into Barclays the bank I use, to ask the ifs and buts about…

Nursing home fees after death
An aunt of mine died a month ago in a nursing home :-(. We emptied the room the following day, but have received a bill today for over £1000 for the use of the unoccupied room for two weeks after her death. :( We are appalled - is this usual practice?

Buy or rent?
I own a small terraced house, probably worth about £110,000. I am 62, retired because of ill health, and living on the state pension. Would love to go traveling, but need to free money to do this. I could sell, buy an even smaller cheaper flat, (looking at retirement flats). I am aware these incur service charges, which…

A relation of my mother has recently passed away without leaving a will. My mother is the only surviving relation, but whichever solicitor is dealing with the deceased relatives estate does not know of my mothers existence. Is there a means by which I can find out which solicitors are dealing with the estate in order to…

Bizarre Will problem - all advice appreciated, especially legal
My neighbour was the main beneficiary of her husband's will when he died 10 years ago - But she still hasn't received her inheritance!!! Her husband's brother is the executor, and my neighbour currently receives 250 a month from the estate. The reason for my worry is that she is struggling for money (and she shouldn't be…

£30 to retrieve my will!
I did a will about 8 years ago, kept a copy and the solicitor kept the original. Just received a letter from the solicitor saying she took early retirement, closed the office, and now wants me to pay £30 to get my original document back. Also if I do not pay up within 7 days then I will be charged storage costs in addition…

Enduring Power of Attorney prior to Oct.07
May I ask this on here: In March 2007 my Mother had an Enduring Power of Attorney executed and it was signed at this time. According to the Office of Public Guardian web site I as the attorney do not need to have this registered and indeed can not have it registered as my Mother still has mental capacity. However,…

Australian banks and interest rates
Hi there Will someone please point out the flaw in my argument as I can't see it really. If I transfer money to Australia, under their system upto £600000 will be guaranteed. So, that is an immediate benefit over British bank accounts and removes the need to split accounts which is a pain. then, they are offering circa 6%…

My parents have been married for over 40 years but have always kept…
