Smart Meter and Cheapest cooking method
I have often wondered which, out of the many methods available to me is the cheapest way of cooking something. My neighbour pointed out to me years ago that she didn't put on her oven if she could cook something on the hob, as it's cheaper if it's the only thing you are doing. I am getting new meters in a couple of weeks…

McDonalds - Overcharging?
Wasn't really sure where to post this but today this really miffed me and I don't know how they get away with it. I used the self service screen and when you customize something, removing items the cost remains the same but if you add something it goes up - how is that fair/right? EG. Sausage and Egg McMuffin (2.49) Remove…

Cheaper to buy a ready meal?
Saw this on the news today and wondered: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-43125842 Yes, it's (probably) cheaper to buy a Big Mac than make a single burger; no-one sells just one burger's worth of the individual ingredients, you have to have enough money for a lettuce, a jar of pickles, a pound of mince, a pack…

rainy or dull or cold days. What to do?
It is damp and dull here today, so I will be indoors and I feel as though I am about to procrastinate. I want to do something I would call `positive` and normally that would be sewing or knitting but I have overload of sewn and knitted items. I have spent more than 3 years doing MK or equivalent so don`t want to add…

Why don’t can openers work anymore?
Over the last year I had found that my can openers won’t open tins like they used to. I have tried four different openers and I have now also brought an electric can opener but we all struggle to open tins. These are Asda Tesco and Aldi tins but they are value or the shop own brand products and we have found that premium…

Weekly Flylady Thread 19th February 2018
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

How can I get red stains off rubber?
My rubber washing up bowl is stained from a (I think) tomato based sauce. It's grey so I'm worried about using bleach and surely there must be something nicer anyway. Please help - how can I make it look nice again?

Chocolate Icing
For years when i make chocolate cake to ice it I would just melt dark chocolate and pour over. However, I've noticed in recent times that when set you get small white rings form on the surface. Therefore, I'm looking to find another recipe suitable for a chocolate sponge cake. Any suggestions?

Any plumbers in? Is this tap plumbed correctly?
We moved into this house in October, since then we've been wondering why our hot water has been disappearing. The water could be on for a couple of hours and your lucky sometimes if you have enough for a shower. I think I have found the culprit. I noticed in the utility the taps are wired correctly. The tap with red tab…
