Chutney overload!
Hi there, I really love making jams and chutneys from cheap or ys goodies but we seem to have a serious backlog of chutney. Strangely, the jam never hangs about. :D I just wondered if anyone had any ideas on how to use it up (aside from with the usual cheese and cold meats)? In case it make a difference, we have: Spiced…

Greying underwear
Any magic solutions for bringing back some rather greying but perfectly good underwear back to a nice white condition again? Will soaking in Vanish or bleach do the trick?. Am rather worried bleach might damage the elastic parts. Thanks.

Are quiches ready to eat?
If I buy a quiche from the chilled cabinet is it ready to eat? The packaging usually says serve hot or cold, but does this mean can be eaten cold without cooking first and cooling, or eaten straight from the box?

Using stir fry pork
Hello everyone! I just bought a reduced pack of stir fry pork (the lean kind that's already cut into thin strips). It's just me so I've split it into 4 portions for the freezer and need ideas to use it all up. Obviously there's stir fry which i love, but I'm also thinking fajitas. Would appreciate any other ideas to keep…

Smelly carpet
Hello! I've come home and walked in the living room and noticed a smell of wee. I can only assume my 3yo has had a secret wee somewhere without me noticing, it has then dried and resulted in the smell. We don't have a carpet cleaner so does anyone else have a good remedy? I was thinking of sprinkling bicarb over the carpet…

Weekly Flylady Thread 10th July 2017
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Freezer bag quandary!
So i make Derbyshire oatcakes - think like a big flat crumpet. In my local farm shop these cost about £4 for a bag of 10, I can make s batch of 20 for less that 50p. My issue is freezing them down. I freeze them in 2's, and I don't want to use 10 freezer bags each time! Anyone have any ideas for more economical options?…

Chocolate fudge cake - mmmm
Hi all i really had to share this recipe I made last week for my brothers birthday. I made a double batch, and resulted in a sandwich cake, and a large "chunk" cake (because that's the only other tin i could find) I have to say, it is absolutely delicious. The method for me was unusual (cocoa powder paste to start), but i…

Should I say it Christmas - 😱
There I said it 🤓 Seriously though it really doesn't be long of coming around, I'm picking up bits and pieces as I go along but I'm wondering about Christmas, or more accurately when to start the Christmas cake There seems to be a difference of opinion here, some opting for stir-up-Sunday which this year is November 26,…

How long for chilled meals out of the fridge?
Just had a bit of an argument with my other half because she has been shopping and amongst the items were some chilled meals that have been out of the fridge now for probably approaching the hour mark. My opinion is they are potentially unsafe now and she will no doubt argue i am talking nonsense and they are fine. An…
